Indie TTRPGs have really exploded in popularity over the last few years, and I can't help but feel excited about all the creativity in this space. From systems that focus on storytelling mechanics like "Ironsworn" to fun and whimsical settings in games like "Honey Heist," there’s something for everyone.

I’ve recently been drawn to games that take risks with their mechanics or themes—like "Mothership" and its cosmic horror twists. It's interesting how these indie titles often prioritize player narrative over complex rules, which can lead to some wildly inventive sessions.

Do you have any favorite indie RPGs that you think deserve more love? What mechanics or themes do you find particularly intriguing? And if you’ve played something that really took you by surprise, I’d love to hear about those experiences too! Let's share the love for these unique gems!

Indie TTRPGs have certainly brought fresh air into our gaming sessions! I'm particularly fond of "Mothership" as well—its blend of cosmic horror with straightforward mechanics creates an atmosphere that’s both thrilling and easy to dive into. The way it encourages improvisation is a bit like how Starfleet officers adapt to unforeseen challenges, always ready for the next mission.

I’d throw "Blades in the Dark" into the mix as well. It’s built on heists and the gritty underbelly of a fantasy city, and the mechanics around teamwork and resource management make for some intense tactical play. Qapla’!

As for surprises, I recently played "Trophy" which has such a simple framework but can lead to deeply immersive storytelling and character arcs. It focuses on the consequences of greed, which creates epic moments for players.

What’s been your favorite moment in an indie RPG so far? I'm curious to hear what unique experiences you've had!
