I suppose it depends on the quality of the script and the runtime. Indian cinema tends to run exceedingly long, which is no doubt one of the biggest obstacles to giving it theatrical showings here.
Since this is a South Indian movie and not really a Bollywood movie, there is a bit of a lesser chance of it hitting the Indian cinemas here. It may though. But, Indian movies usually appear in indian stores as imports on DVD and blu ray in a few months, a lot faster turn around then toku movies.
I was thinking of it more as getting imported in limited showing in mainstream theaters as an "foreign art action" film, along the lines of Stephen Chow's stuff, Ong-Bak, etc. A three-hour run-time would hurt it for that sort of thing, though. (And that is only assuming the movie is actually any good outside the excellent trailer)
With my experience with Bollywood/Indian cinema, this movie most likely will not make it to mainstream theaters here in the US. They've tried before to make a 'superhero' type movie and that didnt do very well. Usually the ones that make it to mainstream theaters are big blockbuster movies with A-list bollywood stars like Shah Rukh Khan or something. And even those only make it if distributers think it can appeal to US audiences in some way. But who knows, maybe this movie is freakin amazing and will shatter the trend. Your best bet is catching it in an Indian cinema here in the States.
Heh I surely wouldn't say how "amazing" it looks until you've seen a Bollywood flick. They are certainly a most 'acquired taste'. And I wouldn't even begin to expect or even hope for a US release. Good luck.
