Doctor Who And the Masked Warriors

Destiny Rider

Blazing king of the rails
Part 1-Rider

The alleyway was cold and damp, but bright, as if it had just stopped raining. It was warm, too. The air was filled with a dull hum that grew and died quickly and repeatedly.
The Doctor explored his immediate new surroundings. The TARDIS hadn’t dropped him off in a random place by himself like in quite a while. He knew he had to pick up Amy soon, but the TARDIS never did anything like this without a reason.
Judging by some posters on a nearby wall, he could surmise he was on Earth. He then realized that droning hum were hover drives, meaning he wasn’t in the early 21st century.

“Help me! They’re coming! Help Me!”

Out of nowhere a man with pale skin in a jogging suit and knit cap came running around the corner of the alley. He ran over to The Doctor, still screaming.

“Please, you’ve got hide me, they’re after me!”

“Who?” The Doctor asked. But it was too late.

“NYPD! FRIEZE!”

Three suited figures pulled around the same corner on odd looking motorcycles. The Doctor knew he was already in trouble for two reasons. The first was the fact both their bikes and their armor were emblazoned with “Police” on every possible surface. The second was the fact their guns were very big and already drawn.

One got off his bike. Each of the figures had slightly customized their suits it seemed. This one had big bug eyes painted over the visor.

“Citizen, please step away from the suspect.” He stated in a mater of fact tone.

The man in the jogging suit started running, when two more of the armored men came ridding down the other end of the alley.

“Please, I need to eat!” the man sobbed, dropping to the ground. It was at this point The Doctor noticed the man was holding a bag. The armored cops who’d just pulled up proceeded to place the man under arrest. The two who arrived first but stayed on their bikes rode of, and the remaining one walked over to retive the bag. The Doctor confronted him.

“He’s just trying to survive. Did you see how pale he was?”

The masked officer bent over and picked up the bag.

“Actually” he answered “He’s quite healthily looking for a Zyronite.”

“A what?” was the only sentence The Doctor could muster.

The cop looked over in the doctor’s direction.

“Sir, what is your name?”

“I’m, um, Dr. John Smith.”

“Well then, Doctor Smith, You’re going to need to come with me.” He said, holding his gun to the doctor’s face.

The officer dragged the doctor down the alley way in handcuffs.

“Seriously, Judge Dread, what do you want with me?”

“Pipe down a minute.” They arrived at street where a large truck was waiting. The Zyronite was being loaded into a cell on the back. One of the suited officers climbed off the rig and walked over, bringing what looked like a gun handle with a camera on the end.

“What’s with that one? The figure asked, revealing she was female by her voice.

“Says he’s Dr. John Smith.” The first one responded.

“No! Wait!” The Doctor yelled “I lied!”

“Yep,” the female responded having quickly used the device in her hand “not the one were looking for. He’s also not human, but he’s not in the database. Bring him in any way.”

“Bug Eyes” lead The Doctor up onto the truck and into a pod next to the Zyronite

The next 15 minutes told The Doctor a lot about where and when he was. He was in New York City, and it was the middle of summer in the year 2094. The major Earth nations had taken in a large number of refugees from other worlds in the pervious decade, and even the freest countries such as Britain and America had strict regulations over them until the could properly function in society. The last of these laws weren’t removed until the late 2110s. But he’d never heard of these armored cops.

The Truck stopped in front of a large, old building. Normally dressed police officers climbed up onto the truck and took The Doctor and the Zyronite inside. They sat him down in a room with a big wooden table and two wood chairs. Then, Bug Eyes entered. He reached for his belt and yanked some object out of the center. The belt, which up to that point had been lit, turned off and the armor, except for that belt, dissolved, reveling a young man in his early 20’s, dressed in rather casual outfit for the job. He looked not much younger than the doctor’s new appearance*. He took the object and pulled on one end, releasing a chain. He promptly hung the object around his neck, which the Doctor realized was his police badge. He then sat down across the table.

“Who are you and where am I” the doctor asked before the young man could open his mouth

“I’m Detective Ryan Ttoorched, pronounced like torched as in burned but with an extra silent t and o. You are at the Manhattan Special Taskforce Command, home of the NYPD’s RIDER Project. Now, if you’ll give me you’re real name and planet of origin, we will get in touch with their contingent and INS to get you processed and you can go back to defending bank robbers in alleyways.”

“Excuse me? Bank robber?” The Doctor said, half shocked.

Ryan smirked.

“You must be a new one. Zyronites have been in quite a bit of trouble in the last few months since they started arriving. The found all substances on Earth beside water indigestible, except one.”

He then reached into his wallet and pulled out a dollar bill.

“They eat money?” The Doctor asked, now almost confused as ever.

“Not really” Ryan continued “For the past thirty years, the US government has used a special, proprietary dye in the ink of the bills which helps prevent counterfeiting. When boiled to the point the paper dissolves, the dye is released and they Zyronties drink the substance.

Now, since they first arrived here 15 months ago, the US alone has taken in 50,000 Zyronites, out of nearly 750,000 worldwide. Considering how important the ink is to the security of the US dollar and how hard it is to produce, supplies of the dye are limited. So, many Zyronites who can’t make do on their rations tend to steal in order to fill themselves. That one you saw had just wandered out of a Citibank branch with $200,000. Now, enough about our pale friend; name and home world please, I’m really not interesting in staying here tonight.”

The Doctor took a deep breath.

“I’m the Doctor. I’m from the Planet Galifrey, but don’t bother calling it, it’s gone. Destroyed.”

For a split second, the doctor could swear he saw a change in Ryan’s expression, but it was quickly suppressed by shouting outside the room. Ryan ran to the door, followed closely by the Doctor.

Another Zyronite was throwing things around the room screaming “Where is he!”

While The Doctor watched from behind the door frame, Ryan ran into the crowd and yanked the badge off his chest. He pressed a button on the back, causing the chain to snap back into its holder. He then held the bade high over his head, followed quickly by slotting it back into the hole in the top of the odd belt. It came to life again.

“System… Standing By…”

“HENSHIN!” Ryan screamed while pressing a button on the top of the belt, causing the armor to reappear.

“Kamen Rider, 7”

The Doctor heard two of the nearby cops talking. They had ducked behind a partition near the Doctor after a water cooler had been hurled in their direction.

“He did it again. He’s been watching that Japanese show WAY too much.”

“Excuse me” The Doctor asked, crawling over to the ducking cops “but what is that?”

“That? That’s Project RIDER. There’s this TV show in Japan called Kamen Rider. Ttoorched’s a big fan, about 5 years ago, they starting making these super suits for protecting officers from more dangerous newcomers. Someone noticed the similarities and the younger guys, like him, all started doing that fancy arm waving bit every time the suit up. They call each other by their suit numbers. His’ is suit 7, so, Rider 7.”

The Doctor, impressed, looked up to watch what was going on, only to see the Zyronite throw Ryan into the window of the room they’d just been in.

The Doctor crawled back in to find Ryan’s belt shorting out. He made his way over to the stricken rider.

“You alright?” He asked Ryan, checking him out with a stethoscope.

“Don’t worry about me Grandpa” he answered pulling himself up to see his fellow riders subduing the other Zyronite.

“Hold on, your head beat sounds… wait, who ware you calling grandpa?”

“You, Gramps. My hearts have always sounded that way. Just like yours.”

“Wait, what? Hearts!?!” again, the Doctor was speechless.

“Doctor, I’m your grandson.” Ryan said sternly,

“But that means you’re a…a...

“Yea,” Ryan smiled “I’m a Time Lord.”
