Ditto (2022) ~ Two Students Communicate Across Time

Honestly, I find the premise a bit far-fetched. I know it’s a sci-fi romance, but communicating via ham radio across time? I’m not convinced that works for me. I feel like these kinds of time-travel movies often try to explain something that just doesn't make sense, and it takes me out of the experience. If they don’t meet after all these attempts, it just feels like unnecessary drama to stretch the plot. Also, if they’re constantly upset with each other because they can’t meet, would their friendship even last in real life? I get that this is a fantasy, but for me, a bit more grounded realism would make it more enjoyable.

It was definitely far-fetched. But you can't deny that it didn't leave you with a question. What if these two had never connected via radio? Would the girl have ever been born?

The characters are both trying to figure out their place in the world. I loved the way the movie shows the importance of friendship and communication.What caught my attention is the time period differences. 1999 feels like such a nostalgic era now, with the turn of the millennium right around the corner, and 2021 isn’t that long ago, but it’s a world apart in terms of technology and culture. This kind of "time gap" between the characters could create a fascinating dynamic, especially as they share stories about their lives. I love that they’re students going through similar experiences despite being decades apart. It’s such a great premise for reflection on how much, and how little, things change. I’m eager to see how they connect over their different timelines!

After watching this movie, I want to watch the 2000 film. This movie was a remake. Now I'm curious if the first version was better.
