Devil May Cry Anime Arrives on April 3, 2025, With a Fresh Take on Dante’s Story Fans of Devil May Cry are in for a treat as the highly anticipated anime adaptation is set to premiere on April 3, 2025. This new take on the beloved franchise is in good hands, as it’s being developed by the same team behind Netflix’s Castlevania series. Given the stellar reputation of the Castlevania adaptations, expectations are sky-high for this project. This isn’t the first time Devil May Cry has been adapted into an anime. Back in 2007, a Devil May Cry anime series was released, and unlike many game-based adaptations, it was officially canon to the video game timeline. That series followed Dante as he took on demon-hunting missions while forming an unlikely bond with a young girl named Patty. The canonicity of that anime was even reaffirmed in Devil May Cry 5, where Patty made a voice-only cameo in a phone call, confirming her place in the series’ lore. However, the 2025 Devil May Cry anime is taking a different approach. Rather than adhering strictly to the established game timeline, this new adaptation will be set in an alternate continuity, primarily inspired by Devil May Cry 3. Showrunner Adi Shankar has emphasized that while the series draws heavily from Devil May Cry 3, it will also carve its own path and explore uncharted aspects of the universe. This means fans can expect fresh twists, deeper character exploration, and potentially new lore that expands on Dante’s world in unexpected ways. One notable change in this adaptation is the casting of Dante’s voice actor. Longtime fans may have hoped for Reuben Langdon or even Matt Mercer to reprise the role, but Capcom and Netflix have taken a different route. Dante will be voiced by Yuri Lowenthal, who previously voiced his nephew, Nero. Now, he takes on the challenge of portraying a younger Dante. It’s like a family reunion—just with more demons and way less hugging. Since this anime is a reimagining of Devil May Cry 3, Lady, a fan-favorite character from the game, is confirmed to be part of the series. This also means Dante’s twin brother, Vergil, is in the series, likely bringing his signature “Might controls everything” philosophy along for the ride. Expect plenty of sibling rivalry, sword clashes, and iconic one-liners like “Why do you refuse to gain power?” and “I need more power!” The anime’s intro is set to Rollin’ by Limp Bizkit. Why Limp Bizkit? Well, Devil May Cry debuted in 2001, and Rollin’ was released in 2000—both from the same era of early 2000s edgy coolness. This choice perfectly captures the chaotic, rebellious energy of Devil May Cry’s early years, when Dante was flipping off demons and delivering cheesy one-liners before obliterating them with a stylish combo. With stylish action, intense battles, and the signature flair that has defined Devil May Cry, this upcoming anime has the potential to be a must-watch for both longtime fans and newcomers alike. Will Dante still have an unhealthy amount of pizza in his diet? Will he maintain his effortless cool while fighting hordes of demons? Probably. And let’s not forget his other favorite indulgence—strawberry sundaes. Because even the most legendary demon hunter needs a sugar rush. Will we get to see Dante bust out his signature “Jackpot!” line? Will Cerberus, Agni & Rudra, and Nevan make their way into the anime’s fights? Will Dante still taunt his enemies mid-battle with that perfect mix of cockiness and badassery? As the release date draws closer, more details will likely emerge, but for now, all eyes are on April 3, 2025, when Dante returns to slash his way onto screens once again.

I'm so hyped for this! The Castlevania team handling Devil May Cry is the best news possible. That show nailed the dark fantasy vibe, and if they can bring the same quality here, we’re in for something special. I don’t even mind that it’s not canon. Sometimes, strict adherence to the source material limits creativity. If they’re focusing on Devil May Cry 3’s style and themes, that’s already a strong foundation.

I get it. They want to avoid any potential continuity errors, and an alternate timeline gives them that freedom. But, I also think it's a bit of a cop-out. It feels like they're saying, "We want to do our own thing, but we don't want to deal with the consequences." Still, I'm curious to see what they come up with. The Devil May Cry 3 inspiration is promising, and I'm always up for more Vergil.

You know, looking at this whole alternate timeline thing, I'm actually breathing a sigh of relief. At least it's not a Paul W.S. Anderson situation. Can you imagine? If he'd gotten his hands on Devil May Cry, we'd be looking at a completely unrecognizable mess. Dante would probably be a side character, if he appeared at all, overshadowed by some brand new, "original" protagonist played by, let's be real, Milla Jovovich. It would be all slow-motion gun-fu, generic monsters, and a plot that barely resembles anything from the games. It would be a complete and utter travesty. At least with this Netflix anime, even if it's an alternate timeline, they're still respecting the core elements of the franchise. They're keeping Dante, Vergil, Lady, and the essence of Devil May Cry 3. So, yeah, I'll take an alternate timeline over a Paul W.S. Anderson adaptation any day. At least they are trying to keep the source material in mind.

I am not happy about this. I wanted a canon anime. I think this is a mistake. I hope they change their mind. But I know that I will still watch it, because I love Devil May Cry.

Okay, look, I get it. Yuri Lowenthal voicing Dante after being Nero? It's... certainly a choice. I mean, talk about keeping it in the family, right? It's almost comical. Like, "Hey, nephew, I'm going to borrow your voice for a bit, okay?" I can't help but chuckle at the sheer absurdity of it. It's like they had a casting call, and Yuri was just like, "I can do both, no problem!" I’m curious how they will make him sound different. I am not sure if he can make them sound very different. It is either going to be a brilliant, unexpected twist, or a complete and utter mess. I am hoping for the first option. I am also hoping that he brings some of his own personality to the role, and that it is not just a copy of his Nero voice. It's definitely going to be interesting to see how this plays out. I guess we will have to wait and see if it works.

It's a bittersweet feeling, knowing Boesh is taking on Dante. Don't get me wrong, he's a talented voice actor, but I can't help but miss Reuben Langdon's iconic portrayal. He just was Dante. That smooth, cocky delivery, the perfect blend of arrogance and charm – it was spot-on. It's a real shame how things turned out. I remember when the controversy around his anti-vaccination views surfaced. It was disappointing to see someone so talented hold such harmful beliefs. And the backlash, well, it was inevitable. Public opinion is a powerful thing, and in this day and age, those kinds of views just aren't tolerated. I understand why Capcom and Netflix made the decision they did. It's about more than just the voice; it's about the message you're sending. It's sad, really. We lost a great Dante because of it. I'm hoping Yuri Lowenthal can channel some of that same energy, but it's going to be tough to fill those shoes.

You know what? I watched that sneak peek again, and I have to say, seeing Dante just absolutely unload with his pistols at the start of that fight? That's the most accurate thing to the games I've seen in any adaptation. It's pure, unadulterated Devil May Cry. I mean, that's how every fight starts, right? Just a hail of bullets, a bit of taunting, and then the stylish swordplay kicks in. They're really nailing the essence of Dante's combat style. And it's not just the action; it's the character. They're keeping him lore-accurate in the best ways. Stylish and completely badass when he's fighting demons, but let's be honest, his luck with women is consistently, hilariously terrible. That's just Dante. He's a walking contradiction, and they're capturing that perfectly. I'm actually getting really excited about this anime. If they keep this level of attention to detail, we might just have a truly great Devil May Cry adaptation on our hands.

Honestly, I'm just glad it's an anime. I mean, can you imagine a live-action Devil May Cry? It would be a nightmare. Anime just lends itself so much better to the over-the-top action and stylishness that defines the series. Plus, with live-action, there's always the risk of them making some... "interesting" casting choices. Imagine if they decided to modernize it a bit too much, and we ended up with a Dante who was suddenly a black, feminist icon. Not that there's anything wrong with those things, but it would completely miss the point of the character. Dante is Dante. He's a cocky, stylish demon hunter with a penchant for pizza and one-liners. That's what makes him iconic. Anime allows them to stay true to that essence, without getting bogged down in the limitations and potential pitfalls of live-action adaptations. I mean, look at what happened with the Powerpuff Girls live action. At least with animation, the source material is more likely to be respected.

Oh, you know I'm already planning my premiere night spread. I'm going full Dante. Forget the fancy snacks, I'm going straight for the essentials: a huge, greasy pizza, piled high with everything, just the way he likes it. Then, of course, a massive strawberry sundae, with extra whipped cream And to wash it all down? A bottle of Jack Daniel's. It's the only way to truly experience the Devil May Cry anime. I'm going to be sitting there, pizza in one hand, sundae in the other, and a glass of Jack in easy reach, ready to cheer on Dante as he slices and dices his way through hordes of demons. If they're going to give us a fresh take on Dante, I'm going to honor the classic Dante in my own way. It is the only way to watch it.
