Dealing with RAW Spoilers

I didn't consider it punishment. I was just wanting whatever's most convenient for you guys. Having to use spoiler boxes and keeping track of when subs come out seems like a hassle for those who just watch 'em raw.

I thought another thread would be easiest.

While the stickied threads are for those of us who watch subs and are usually all on the same page when it comes to releases.

But if you're comfortable with using spoiler tags for stuff beyond the sub releases, that's cool. Which ever works best for you guys and is less a pain.

It's indeed impossible for people like me to know which is subbed and which is not. You have a valid point there, Keith.

But might I just add that spoiling doesn't only come from raw watchers, but also from people who found articles and scans from magazines? I remember for Justiriser that I knew about Shirogane even before the episodes with him aired (same goes for Kurogane), simply because people found articles and scans about him and posted these in the forums.

I think it's also too much of an utopian view to think everyone is on the same page regarding releases, even if you stay just among sub or raw watchers. I for one was about 10 episodes behind Kyusaku at one point regarding Sazer-X. Heck, even some sub watchers were ahead of me and thus they could spoil me (raw watcher). It's difficult to draw a line in all that and as such I believe everything pertaining to the story or plotlines should be marked a spoiler.

I don't consider it a hassle since I tend to use the spoiler (and now) hide tags (I like the hide tag over the spoiler tag). I forget to use those when I reply to a reply though. lol

Actually, I have two remarks concerning this matter:

1. What is a spoiler? I think there are various levels of spoilers:
- Spoilers coming from magazine scans or articles => everyone gets spoiled
- Spoilers coming from raw watchers => Raw watchers that are behind and sub watchers get spoiled.
Even if you split up the forum, that would mean that still spoiler tags would have to be used in the Raw forum for spoilers of the first kind.

2. Splitting seems like the easy thing to do but I'm sure it gets hard to keep track of all discussions for one particular series then. So I would go with the spoiler tags and keep everything together.

Regarding the spoiler tags, I've seen on forums where you have a button you need to press in order to view a spoiler. If it's technically possible to implement this into the forum, that might be a good idea.

So I'de go with spoiler tags BUT then we also clearly need to define what a spoiler is:
- is it something that hasn't been aired yet?
- is it something that hasn't been aired and subbed yet?
- if it is something that hasn't been subbed yet and multiple groups sub the same series, which episode counts? The lowest episode subbed by all groups or the most recent one subbed by one group?

In closing, I'm OK with spoiler tags, but those should be used then by anyone discussing content of the show, be it from articles, magazine scans, raw watching and even sub watching (since not everyone is at the same page)

Anything beyond the subs. It would've been nice to be surprised by Kagami becoming TheBee or finding out he gave it up. That kinda stuff.

News and stuff.. hmmm... kinda heard to think of those as spoilers. Maybe just watch out for putting exactally what it is like, "Kagami as TheBee Pictures Within!" "OMG Tendou is Dead!"

Be creative in your titles, give warning on what it is within that the reader will find.

Again... whatever's the least amount of pain.

Some of the topics in the News section can EASILY be considered as major spoilers. Example, the thread entitled, "BoukenRed Power Up & Kamen Rider Drake Actor" - I don't watch Kamen Rider Kabuto often enough that the topic just gave away the third (?) Rider to me. If I had a dislike for spoilers then I could be potentially upset by the spoiler. It's the same with the rumors we get towards the end of each series and we get tons of "the next Kamen Rider series is called ____" type of threads.

Keep this in mind: You have the new "News" section coming up, and nearly everything posted there can be considered a spoiler unless it's music or dvd releases. I remember when Justiriser kept getting new closing songs that some people considered posting the new song titles and the eps the music came out in as spoilers. Some people are too picky when it comes to being spoiled and some people (like me) LIKE being spoiled.

The way forum discussions currently go should be left alone. If someone isn't using a spoiler/hide tag then the post can easily be modified to add it and we can add a title to each individual replies if needed. It really is that simple.

Yeah, the news stuff is bigger spoiler-wise, imo.

I've seen forums use seperate topics per episode... But these are bigger forums than here and about just one show. I'm not sure if that'd go over so well here considering how many shows are going on at the same time.

The more I think about it, tags are the best way to go, only thing with that is having people know when it's okay to not use the tag. Not that that is a big deal when compared to those who would get spoiled if they didn't.

Kyo- Basically, you're in Japan right? If you just saw it and post about it, you can consider that a spoiler as the subs probably aren't out for it.

The stuff in the news section does bother me sometimes, but marking it with

wouldn't be that much of a hassle and it can avoid people seeing things that they don't want to see. As for the actual post, just add "Spoilers" or something to the thread title. And anyone who doesn't use them, like Mika said, their post are easily fixed.

There are definately levels of spoiler-age. Revealing Kagami to be TheBee or stating a death in a thread title is a bit much. Versus BoukenRed Powering Up or saying Kamen Rider Drake... I mean, neither are those big suprises as they're something that happen every year.

We'll see now the front page news goes when it comes. I'm thinking nothing too specific then "Read More" to find out the specifics at your own peril.

Obviously posts like, "Wow, ep 25 rocked" isn't a spoiler since nothing was given away but something like, "Wow, ep 25 rocked when the blue man came out of the rocket and fired his laser at the green man. When the town caught fire and was blown away... Wow." That obviously is a spoiler since it gave info about what happened in that ep.

Another thing, links to other sites. I appreciate that some people post links to that Thai Toku forum or to the UltramanLah forum or where ever but honestly, many of those links contain spoiler images and aren't labeled as such. Sure it's fast and easy to post a straight link like http://forums.henshinjustice.net/showthread.php?t=6177&page=21 but it'd be better for those who hate spoilers to have the link as Kamen Rider Kabuto - Talkback.

When it comes to the newest show stickies, I enter it knowing I'm entering at my own risk. Sometimes, even w/ the subs I get way behind. For example, because I wait to put episodes on a DVD, I'm always 3-4 episodes behind the people who watch subs. And WAY behind the RAW watchers. So I enter the Talkback's at my own risk, knowing fully well I'm way behind from what other people are watching.

Now spoiler tags are cool, and god bless the people that use them all the time. But I've never been that upset when I've accidently read something I didn't know about a show. HELL it happened to me by something Keith said about Kabuto in this very thread! But I don't think we need to split the forums or anything. People just need to be more aware that
1) If you're behind the people who watch RAWS...you might be spoiled w/ upcoming things you don't want to know
2) If you're behind the sub watchers...you are GONNA be spoiled like it or not.
So keep that in mind when entering the talkbacks.

My suggestion is, if it's a heavy plot point, or something about a character, or something that really effects the story. It just be conciderit for the RAW watchers to post that info in a spoiler tag. So it doesn't "ruin it" for the sub watchers that are comming up behind them.
If it's been out sub'd though...well, you're on your own.
