Dealing with RAW Spoilers

I've come up with two solutions.

One is what I originally was going to go with. Split the Tokusatsu section into Tokusatsu and Kamen Rider/Sentai. There seem to be enough shows and discussion for both.

There we could have a seperate thread for the l33t raw watches and then
n00b sub watchers, so that those who watch the subs don't have to worry about getting spoiled and raw watchers can talk to their hearts content.

That.... or keep things how they are and request that raw watchers make more use of the Spoiler Tags and Buttons.

Which would you prefer?

I hesistate to split the forum, cuz I like all these topics grouped together all cozy like and don't wanna thin us out too much.

Anyway, what do you think?

Leave as is. If the thread is a discussion of course there are going to be spoilers. It's not the raw watchers fault that the sub watchers are (typically) way behind us.

Yes, we raw watchers can use the spoiler and hide (I like the hide tag now) tags more often but every single post in that discussion can end up having to contain a spoiler/hide tag because someone else might not have seen the raws let alone subs. Also, remember those little icons I told you about in the thread I started? Well we need something like that ASAP and those of us who post anything remotely like a spoiler needs to use the spoiler icon.

I think a definition of spoiler needs to be given first. After all, what really is a spoiler? I always thought any information pertaining to a show before it aired. But since a number of people wait for the fan subs, then a spoiler is different for them, since they are always behind.

I don't like either of the choices, but if I had to pick between splitting the forum and enforcing tag usage, then I'd say the latter. But there are too many things that constitute a spoiler... It really isn't fair to have people who watch raws using the spoiler tags until a fan sub is released, that just seems silly imo. I know it isn't fair to those who wait for fan subs either... Anyone know the ratio of raw watchers vs fan sub ones any ways?

[edit: wee~ re-read the topic name, lol, whoops.]

Okay, if it hasn't been released in easily attainable subs, it's a spoiler. At least for the above Stickied threads.

Should you raw watchers feel the need, start up a RAW thread so you can talk all ya want, especially if the subs are waaaaay behind and you wanna talk without having to use a spoiler tag for every single one of your posts.

So you're going to punish us raw watchers then by "forcing" us to create new threads?

It's a spoiler regardless if it's a sub or raw since someone will always be behind in watching the raw or subs. Example, GARO - while I already had seen the last two raw eps and eventually once the subs came out for the rest of you, there were/are still people who are far behind in the series (like around ep 10).

I can think of one forum that no longer allows raw discussions and frankly that forum is D-E-A-D from lack of activity.

Essentially the discussions about the subs are still spoilers and should be treated as such. No need to punish us raw watchers. If the topic says DISCUSSION then it should be obvious that it's going to contain SPOILERS.

I'll continue to use the spoiler/hide tags when possible but, personally, I might slip and forget to use it.

Keith, I can't help but feel being part of the problem :bawling:

Actually, I have two remarks concerning this matter:

1. What is a spoiler? I think there are various levels of spoilers:
- Spoilers coming from magazine scans or articles => everyone gets spoiled
- Spoilers coming from raw watchers => Raw watchers that are behind and sub watchers get spoiled.
Even if you split up the forum, that would mean that still spoiler tags would have to be used in the Raw forum for spoilers of the first kind.

2. Splitting seems like the easy thing to do but I'm sure it gets hard to keep track of all discussions for one particular series then. So I would go with the spoiler tags and keep everything together.

Regarding the spoiler tags, I've seen on forums where you have a button you need to press in order to view a spoiler. If it's technically possible to implement this into the forum, that might be a good idea.

So I'de go with spoiler tags BUT then we also clearly need to define what a spoiler is:
- is it something that hasn't been aired yet?
- is it something that hasn't been aired and subbed yet?
- if it is something that hasn't been subbed yet and multiple groups sub the same series, which episode counts? The lowest episode subbed by all groups or the most recent one subbed by one group?

In closing, I'm OK with spoiler tags, but those should be used then by anyone discussing content of the show, be it from articles, magazine scans, raw watching and even sub watching (since not everyone is at the same page)
