Crunchyroll's First Announcements For 2025

This past weekend, Crunchyroll held an industry panel at Colombia’s biggest annual fan convention, SOFA (el Salón del Ocio y la FAntasía). It was there they revealed the first four anime series that will be appearing on their servers when 2025 rolls around. After the blockbusters that have appeared so far this fall, and have yet to appear through the holiday season, what Crunchy has for January feels like a comedown: more isekai and wacky romance with very little to set any of it apart from the crowd. But January is still fairly far away, and we figure more announcements are coming between then and now. As it is, current plans for January 2025 include Headhunted to Another World: From Salaryman to Big Four! an isekai about a salaryman recruited to lead the army of a demon king….and (deep breath) The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You, which is actually on its second season. Unless I’m mistaken, the premise here is that the protagonist has to date 100 girls and if he dumps any of them they die? How many have died so far? Ugh, another isekai overload? Don't get me wrong, I love a good escape to another world, but come on Crunchyroll! We just had that whole thing with "Sword Art Online: Reboot Again." Headhunted to Another World sounds kinda funny though, with a regular dude becoming a demon king's right hand? Maybe it'll be a fun twist on the usual isekai tropes. Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun season 2 is a definite watch for me. Season 1 was hilarious and the whole school mystery thing kept me guessing. As for the romance shows... 100 Girlfriends? Yikes, that sounds like a dating sim nightmare!

Isekai can be hit or miss, but the idea of a salaryman becoming a demon king's advisor in Headhunted to Another World cracks me up. That could be hilarious!

Crunchyroll's January 2025 lineup feels... safe. Don't get me wrong, I love returning favorites like Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun. The first season was a great blend of humor and supernatural thrills. But sequels aside, where's the innovation? Isekai is a crowded genre already, and Headhunted to Another World doesn't seem to offer anything groundbreaking. The salaryman angle might be a fun twist, but we'll see if it can stand out. The same goes for 100 Girlfriends. High-concept harem anime? Been there, done that. It'll have to execute the premise exceptionally well to be worth watching. Medaka Kuroiwa is Impervious to My Charms has potential, though. It's always interesting to see a subversion of the usual "popular girl x aloof guy" trope. Will she manage to crack his shell? Will he discover her true feelings? This could be a sweet and surprising rom-com. Ultimately, Crunchyroll's lineup is a mixed bag. It caters to established fans of specific genres, but doesn't offer much for those seeking something fresh. Here's hoping they have more surprises in store for us later!

All I care about at Crunchy Roll is Tower of God, I want season 3!

Headhunted to Another World sounds like a fun isekai with a unique premise. I'm always interested in seeing how ordinary people fare in a fantasy world. The idea of a salaryman becoming a demon king's advisor is hilarious, and I can't wait to see how he handles the challenges he faces. I'm also curious about Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun. The first season was great, and I'm hoping season 2 will be even better. I love the supernatural mystery elements, and the characters are really well-developed. As for the other shows, they're not really my cup of tea. Romance isn't my strong suit, and I'm not a big fan of harem anime. Overall, this lineup is a bit lacking in action, but there's enough to keep me entertained. Headhunted to Another World is definitely the highlight for me.
