Crunchyroll Announces Three New Movies At CinemaCon

This week during CinemaCon Crunchyroll formally announced they have acquired three new movies for US distribution: HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle, Blue Lock The Movie: Episode Nagi, and Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom. Two thirds of these happen to be sports movies. HAIKYU!! is a volleyball anime that’s been around for ten years; Crunchyroll is teaming up with Sony Pictures to release the film in select US theaters May 31. Shoyo Hinata joins Karasuno High’s volleyball club to be like his idol, a former Karasuno player known as the “Little Giant.” But, Hinata soon finds that he must team up with his middle school nemesis, Tobio Kageyama. Their clashing styles turn into a surprising weapon, but can they beat their rival Nekoma High in the highly anticipated “Dumpster Battle,” the long awaited ultimate showdown between two opposing underdog teams? Oh, nice! More anime movies hitting the big screen is always a win in my book. I'm particularly stoked about "HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle." The rivalry between Karasuno and Nekoma has been intense in the series, so seeing it play out in a movie sounds epic. Plus, teaming up with Sony Pictures for the release? That's a solid move by Crunchyroll.
 
"Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom" brings the fantasy vibes, and I'm all for it. The whole concept of getting sucked into a game world never gets old, and with four seasons under its belt, you know it's got a solid fanbase. I can't wait to see how Ains Ooal Gown and the Sorcerer Kingdom handle the threat of the Demon Emperor.
