Child at Dayton Mosque Attacked With Pepper Spray

Friday, September 26th ended a week in which thousands of copies of Obsession: Radical Islam's War Against the West -- the fear-mongering, anti-Muslim documentary being distributed by the millions in swing states via DVDs inserted in major newspapers and through the U.S. mail -- were distributed by mail in Ohio. The same day, a "chemical irritant" was sprayed through a window of the Islamic Society of Greater Dayton, where 300 people were gathered for a Ramadan prayer service. The room that the chemical was sprayed into was the room where babies and children were being kept while their mothers were engaged in prayers.

Not sure why this hasn't blown up in the news. I apologize for the Huffington Post link (yes, I know they're super liberal), but I can't find serious coverage of the incident in any major news source besides the fairly shoddy Dayton Daily News. I first read about it this morning while reading the Applegeeks comic and Hawk's blog over there.

Police say that there's currently no evidence of it being a hate crime, but I would say that there's enough for there to be suspicion. Hopefully the police are able to get a trace on the fingerprints on the can of pepperspray found near the mosque and put whoever's responsible to serious charges and find out what groups they're associated with. I think it's very suspicious that this hateful, bullshit "documentary" was distributed the same day as this attack. People here in Milwaukee got the DVD of the "Obsession" sent to them with their Sunday paper about a week ago. I threw mine out with a venomous curse. Has anyone else gotten the DVD or had to watch it?

Dayton? Geez, that's only a few hours from here...and yes, I live in Ohio and got that Obsession DVD in the mail one day as well. I haven't even taken it out and just sort of pitched it to one side of my room. Though, I should probably do more to it than that now...

Just when I was complimenting our country on how it seems we're movning forward.

How fucked up do have to be to think this would be a great way to spend your day? How uneducated do you have to be to feel these people are actually your enemy?

The problem is, Keith, there are tons of uneducated bigots in this country.

Last year, someone threw a pig's head into a church doubling as a mosque during Islamic services up in my hometown in Maine (there's a fairly sizeable Somali refugee community). Bigotry of any nature-- racial, religous, sexual, gender, whatever-- makes me sick.

I'm sure whoever is responsible thinks anyone who attends there is somehow a terrorist and yet what they did is the very definition of terrorism itself.

We have a long way to go and there is a lot of work to do but every step forward we are able to make is a valuable one no matter how small. Even while willfully ignorant and hateful idiocy such as this act and that dumbass DVD still exist.

I got that same DVD in the mail... I tossed it in the trash immediately. I refuse to give those bigots the time of day, let alone humor them by watching propaganda. :redface2:

And the fact that it was sent to swing states should be a red flag... anyone wanna bet the GOP was behind this? More specifically Sarah Palin?

I don't like bigotry either ,but I have unfortunately was that when I was in second grade and I regret it because when a new kid came in the class (asian) I sorta made fun of his eyes ,and I believe I made him motivated to get out of the class ,though others could've done it. I feel like a complete idiot now :redface2:

I hope you don't hate me.
