After an impressive first season on TV, Kaiju No. 8 is coming to theaters next month. The big question: is it an original movie, or an omnibus film? The answer…it’s sort of both. Mainly, Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon is a big-screen re-edit of the first TV season. But it also contains the debut of a new episode, Hoshina’s Day Off. In a world where kaiju are constantly emerging and causing chaos, civilization’s most vital organization are the members of the Anti-Kaiju Defense Force. It’s Kafka Hibino’s biggest dream to join the force, but he’s failed every entry test he’s […]

The anime adaptation has done a great job capturing the intensity of the original story, and I can't wait to see how the recap movie enhances it. The addition of an original episode, “Hoshina’s Day Off,” is a smart move—these kinds of extra stories often give more depth to side characters. Production I.G has a solid reputation, and with Tetsuya Nishio leading character design, it’s bound to look amazing. I’m definitely getting my tickets early!

I prefer watching anime with English dubs, so I’m wondering if they’ll eventually release a dubbed version of this movie. It’s great that we’re getting an English-subtitled release, but Sony and Crunchyroll usually push dubs too. If they announce one later, I might wait for that instead of watching it in theaters. Still, this series has a cool premise, so I might check out the sub anyway.

This is amazing news! I’ve been following Kaiju No. 8 since the manga first came out, and seeing it get so much love with an omnibus film is thrilling. The animation by Production I.G. looks stunning, and I can’t wait to experience it on the big screen. The fact that they’re including a new original episode is a fantastic bonus—Hoshina is such an interesting character, so seeing his personal life will add depth to the story

I don’t know how I feel about this. Recap movies can be hit or miss, and while Kaiju No. 8 has been solid so far, I’d rather wait for an actual new season instead of paying to rewatch something I already saw. The new episode sounds fun, but is that really enough to justify a theater release? I might wait for reviews before deciding.

I’ve heard good things about Kaiju No. 8, but I haven’t watched the series yet. This could be a good way for me to catch up and see if I like it. I’m especially interested in the whole concept of the protagonist being part Kaiju himself. Sounds different from the usual monster-fighting anime.

I wish there was a dub option. I like watching anime in English so I can focus more on the animation instead of reading subtitles. That being said, I might still go because Kaiju No. 8 looks cool, and I don’t want to wait forever for the dubbed version.

Production I.G. working on this makes me confident in the animation quality. They have a strong track record with action-heavy anime, and with Tetsuya Nishio leading the character design, the art should be top-notch. I’m also really interested in Yuta Bandoh’s music. The soundtrack can make or break a film like this, and I hope it complements the intensity of the Kaiju fights.

Hoshina getting a dedicated episode is the best part of this announcement! He’s one of the most interesting characters in the series, and I love his fighting style. I can’t wait to see what he does in his free time—it’ll be fun to see a different side of him outside of battle.
