Jericho is a very highly inaccurate representation of nuclear war and it's effects. I could go on and on pointing out the flaws in it's logic. But I'll sun it up in 3 points.
1. Anyone who can see the mushroom cloud that clearly would probably be blinded or feel the effects of fallout.
2. Communications would be horribly mangled, probably to the point where phones would not work due to the EMP caused by a nuclear explosion.
3. If that many nuclear bombs were dropped around the US, the climate would change so dramatically it would be filled with dark clouds and fallout filled rain.
