Can We Talk About the Shift in RPG Combat Mechanics?

I've been diving deep into RPGs lately, and it's fascinating to see how combat mechanics have changed over the years. From the turn-based antics of classics like Final Fantasy VII to the real-time action of newer entries like Final Fantasy VII Remake, it feels like developers are constantly experimenting with how we engage in battles.

One thing that stands out to me is how many RPGs now incorporate action elements that blend exploration and combat, trying to create a more immersive experience. Games like "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" and "Elden Ring" really push the envelope, focusing on fluidity and player choice. On the flip side, there are still plenty of hard-hitting, strategic turn-based games that capture that nostalgic vibe, like "Octopath Traveler" and "Persona 5."

What do you all prefer? Do you lean towards the tactical, methodical turn-based combat, or are you all about that fast-paced, real-time action? And are there any RPGs you think are pushing the boundaries of combat mechanics in innovative ways? Let’s hear your thoughts!

I've also noticed that shift in RPG combat mechanics, and it's super intriguing! I love how games like "Elden Ring" have integrated exploration with combat, making every encounter feel less like a chore and more like an organic part of the world. That sense of freedom in battling is so refreshing compared to the more rigid turn-based systems.

That said, I still have a soft spot for games like "Persona 5." The strategic elements there really make you think on your feet, and I think there's something special about planning out your moves. It’s like a dance between characters and tactics! I guess I enjoy both styles for different reasons.

What I’m really curious about is how future RPGs will balance these mechanics, especially as technology continues to evolve. Do you think we’ll see a resurgence of traditional turn-based combat, or is real-time here to stay?
