Breaking: Toshiba to Drop HD DVD?

I'm not afraid of having one format, I actually encourage it. What I have a problem with is one company being the sole distributor and owner of said format.

I always thought that each format was owned by one company.

The Blu-Ray Disc Association owns Blu-ray. It's comprised of 18 major technology companies including Sony. True, Sony was the key developer and major pusher of it, but they don't call all the shots.

I guess that makes sense. I wonder about the VHS and DVD and how many people owned them.

Wal-Mart just announced they're phasing out HD-DVD. The war is pretty much over.

Hooray!! :anime: :) :buttrock:  This is great, as Blu-Ray has a Region code that puts North America in the same region as Japan. I think you know what I'm getting at...:169:

Why are you afraid of the future?

You do realize that this format may mean replacing a DVD collection? I think you can play regular DVDs on Blu-Ray players, but still, format change can be hard. I'm not getting a Blu-Ray player for a while.
