Because I'm bored, least favorite Rider designs:

Black RX: Weakest of the older Riders, it's not terrible or anything, but it doesn't really stack up to Black.

J: Not very inspired, ZO is a similar design done better.

Kuuga: I liked the original 4 (minus Growing), just not the others.

G4: Great character, but he deserved more than to be made out of G3/G3-X parts painted Black with a bigger antennae thingie.

Ouja: Just not a very exciting design compared to some of the others in Ryuki.

Faiz Blaster Form: You know there's a problem when the toys based on it are cooler than the actual suit is.

Delta: Helmet's cool, the body is a mess. What happened to the direction they were going in, with Kaixa having 2 lines where Faiz has 1?

Shuki: The helmet really killed it, I think if they had just changed that it would actually be pretty cool because I like the rest of the suit.

TheBee: Like Ouja, compared to some of the other designs in the show, I just don't find it very exciting. Also:

[HIDE]I'd probably like it better if it weren't so pointless in retrospect, since everyone who was TheBee just went on to become a better Rider, the entire character of Kamen Rider TheBee really was just a placeholder. It's hard to like even a good design if the character has virtually no point in the end.[/HIDE]

Igadevil, I agree very much with your spoiler there. I picked as one of my favorites mainly based on the design by itself, which just makes what happens with it in the show more annoying.

I'm not sure what you mean about the toys in regards to Blaster Mode Faiz but I 've never seen them really. I liked it because I thought it looked cool, (Though the functionality of the big folding gun, sword, thing is questionable) and it meets one of my major criteria for upgrades and alt. forms which is that it does not obscure or destroy the overall basic look the character starts with.

That's part of why I like Kuugas forms because they don't have alot of gratuitous kibble and stuff sticking out. He's instantly recognizable as Kuuga in all of them because they don't screw with the helmet design outside of eye-coloration and small additional horns on his Ultimate.

Well, I think I'm more of a fan of the form upgrades being a really drastic change. I like Blade King Form or Armed Hibiki for that reason- they're different enough from the original design yet still recognizable as the character, and much more of a change than "inbetweeners" like Blade Jack Form of Hibiki Kurenai were. The flip side to that is, at least with Hibiki Kurenai, I felt it had a better in-story reason for being in the show than Armed Hibiki did (I prefer the movie version of that one) but since we're talking about designs here, I'll stand by what I said. The exceptions I make with this is with the old Riders like Rider 1, 2, or Skyrider changing, but those were really more of a permanent costume change. And with Agito Trinity Form, which is basically just Grand Form with the arms of Flame & Storm, but it always felt to me like something they were building up to from the start, with the asymmetry of Storm & Flame Forms, and I'm actually bummed they didn't use it more.

Faiz Blaster just felt kind of like "we always do the supreme final form so we need to do it here too" and not really anything amazing, especially after a neat idea like Accel (which really could have been done without even changing the costume, IMHO, but then I guess Clock Up wouldn't seem so special now.) And it's really not that different from the regular Faiz I felt- they changed the armor a bit, and he has a jet pack, but the weapon itself could have been used by normal Faiz and it would basically be the same thing I think. But you can say that about King Form or Armed Hibiki too, so I guess it just boils down to what you like. (On that note though, the Faiz Blaster Souchaku-Henshin figure is possibly one of the best Faiz toys ever made. I collect some of the toys, so I generally also think of it from that angle- "Is the new form really neat enough to warrant buying?" I usually skip on buying the add-on forms unless, like the Blaster figure, they're really cool.)

The thing about the Kuuga ones, mainly the Rising Forms, that bugged me is they were just too close to the others to really feel needed. They slapped some gold paint on here and extend the weapon there, but all they really needed to do was strengthen the existing ones. I cut Kuuga some slack since it was part of the plot, of him getting ever stronger until Ultimate Form, but I think it would have been more effective to just drag out introducing his regular alternate forms for more of the show, or make the current ones stronger without actually having to change the costumes, because, like with some later alternate forms, the costume change is really so slight, I don't think they were really needed.

I do like the default Mighty Form a lot, but I feel the umpteen others kind of cheapen the whole thing overall. Dragon, Pegasus and Titan I like okay, and Growing is neat in theory (I would have liked it if they went further with it and made Kuuga even less armored.) but the way it becomes little more than a way to show Kuuga just got his butt kicked...It's like if they had seriously considered the "Power-Down" short-horned version of Gills as a seperate form (maybe they do, I dunno.) or had Ryuki go back to Blank Ryuki all the time. I already said how I feel about the Rising Forms (and Mighty Rising goes with them.) Ultimate Form...I guess I wish it had lived up the hype, because as cool as it was, it was just so seriously underused. Design-wise though, I like it, but the original Mighty is still the best Kuuga to me.

Kuuga Mighty is actually my first and formost favorite as well. I agree about Faiz Blaster feeling like it's kinda just there because, but alot of stuff about Faiz is like that sadly enough. I can see what you mean about the Rising Forms and it's a pretty valid point. I guess since with Kuuga the entire concept of alt. forms just felt so much more organic to the premise than it does in other tokusatsu series it didn't bother me that he had forms that were enhanced versions of stuff he already had. I kinda think it was a smarter way to go withiin context of the story being told. The thing you mentioned with Ultimate is just another problem with Kuugas overall ending itself which is that the Godai aspect of it rocks but they skimped on the Kuuga aspect.

i also really liked Armed Hibiki due to the fact that it seemed so sleek and well thought out, my only problem is that it didn't really match the entire instruments as weapons theme Hibiki had going for it, which was kinda weird,

blade's king form was a bit excessive, really really heavily armored and waaaaayyy too big of a sword, if it were an anime, I'd have the words "HOLY SH*T" running through my head, but since it's toku I'm thinking, how's he going to fight with that. my one true complaint about blade was that every main rider except leangle got an upgrade which was really unfair

can't really judge the old gen. riders, i liked the bug design but disliked the scarves and the consistencies in designs, really really really big coincidence that each organization decided to make bug like cyborgs out of people :anime:

really liked some of hibiki's designs, it was really original, but a pain to draw, which gets points for ultra creativity.

I liked faiz's designs, well maybe except for psyga, that one was a bit strange, but original

and as for kabuto my only real dislike is drake for the loss of symetry in the suit design, the masked forms have also proven to be pretty much useless since everyone casts off the second they get into battle.

Fave: (not in order)

Logia : Gransazer - that suit just really said it all. One of the sleekest designs I've seen on a villain or hero.

Faiz and Accel Form: Faiz just has this sleekness to it that screams symmetry, grace, and power. And as Accel form - you knew it was still Faiz (like Iga had said), but it LOOKED like it would be an accelerated form. And you can't go wrong with silver on black.

Hibiki Armed Form: Aside from the development it got (movie version),
storywise, it really LOOKED like Hibiki's Power Form. From the additional leg, arm, and chest armor, and helmet, to the coloration patterns, it really is way up there as my fave designs ever.

Kabuki - Movie: Very well conceived. Showed every aspect of Kabuki (its art form) as well as keeping to the asymetrical design and character of Kabuki himself. It worked very well.

Hoppers in Kabuto: The whole idea and throwback to the Riders 1 and 2, plus the suits just LOOK evil and warped. They LOOK as crazy as the riders that don them and I love the sharp pointy parts of their armor. Probably though my fave design in Kabuto is Sasword - Rider Form, although his Masked Form is an interesting conceptual design I haven't seen much in toku. I actually don't like it Hyper Kabuto's form and for his Rider form, maybe it's the helmet.

Goraijers: Thes two will probably continue to be my fave in sentai yet. Thematically, aesthetically, and the coloration, all worked very well.

Garo - full ensemble: again, very aesthetically pleasing, well put together, and the meaning of the suit to boot.

Roborider from RX: The red tear-like motif worked very well, and the suit is just cool.

Agito: All forms. Nuff said bout those.
Kuuga: General Form - although his Ultimate form is quite nice.

Dekaranger - number motif worked very well for all, but particularly nicely for DekaRed and DekaMaster

Flashman - simple and sweet, functional

Megaranger/PRiS: both forms are same, I know, but I have to admit, in PRiS, it really looked like something Space - Lightstar Rangerteam would wear, and I just like the design's functionality and simplicity.

Magi Legend Form: Particularly in MagiBlue-it looked like it belonged to the suit; the rest were palatable to varying degrees

GaoSilver: worked the best at capturing the spirit of their animals, I thought.
Justirisers
Hurricanger
Ryuki Survive
Tiga - multitype

Gingaman with Ginga no Hikari Armaments

Nexus all but Noa's form - I dunno, those wings? whatever they are and the general design, just kill it for me. Oh and I didn't care much for The Next's design - good movie, crappy design IHMO.

Maskman: Incidentally, I didn't like Yellow and Pink Mask - those dangling 'earrings' from their ears didn't help their fugly (IMO) helmet designs.

Worst/Dislike:

Kakuranger
Fiveman with Tector - just worthless design IMO
Blade King Form: Nice concept and idea, just bad execution
Leangle: just ugly, bulky
Garren's J-Form: what was up with those skimpy wings?

Sazer X - Orange? And yeah...What's his name, Red's was palatable, but not by much.

Ouja - so plain compared to everyone else's
Max - Can't stand the face
Shuki - just ugly despite its efforts
Changeman - sorry, self-explanatory
Name slipping mind atm: Ice Oni from Movie - big cumbersome, and ugly

Neutral/Inbetween
Jetman: Liked the concept, (especially the wings) but why the underwear?
Dairanger: " " but didn't like the outer vest thingy
GogoV - eh, great series, but that design...I dunno...
Habataki : great design, icarus pattern, but a flute? Come on...

The "underwear" on Jetman is just something part of superhero designs all the way back to the great grandpa of em all, Superman.

I also think they were just wanting to get away from the standard white gloves, white boots thing. I think the suits work but I can agree that having all that white on the legs is kinda the weakest part of the design because in a way it makes their legs seem bare. JetSwan fairs better since her leggings get to be a darker color to contrast the white on the rest of her outfit.

This is very true and sensible...I'm just quibbling that it doesn't appeal to my aeshetic sense ^_^ I mean, my eyes are drawn to that discrepancy- annoyingly so, but the rest of the suit design, sans white leggings are quite nice.
