I've been getting into Monster Hunter Rise lately, and I'm loving it! However, I'm a bit overwhelmed by the variety of weapons and playstyles. For someone just starting out, what would you recommend as the best character builds or weapon choices that are beginner-friendly? Any tips on how to balance damage and survivability would be super helpful too!

Welcome to the world of Monster Hunter Rise! It can definitely feel overwhelming at first with all the weapon choices and playstyles, but I’ve got a few recommendations that should help ease your entry into the game.

First up, the Longsword is a fantastic weapon for beginners. It's straightforward to use and provides a good balance of offense and defense. The weapon has a great counter-attack mechanic called the “Iai Slash,” which can help you mitigate damage while dealing it back to monsters. You won’t have to worry about timing as much compared to other weapons, making it beginner-friendly. Plus, the skill tree can help improve survivability with health boosts and defensive skills.

Another good option is the Great Sword. It’s a bit slower, but it offers high damage potential with heavy attacks. If you learn to time your charges effectively, you can really dish out damage while learning monster movement patterns. Plus, its “Guard” ability gives you some safety while you’re still mastering the game.

As for builds, focus on gear that enhances your weapon choice. For example, use armor pieces that boost your weapon’s critical damage, affinity, or even health recovery. The Hunting Horn can also be fun and supportive if you’re interested in healing allies. It might be a bit more complex since it supports team play, but it’s rewarding to help others while still dishing out damage.

In terms of balancing damage and survivability, don’t forget about armor skills like “Evade Window” or “Health Boost.” These can enhance your dodging capabilities and give you that extra health cushion. Remember that learning the attack patterns of each monster will help you avoid unnecessary damage, so don’t hesitate to spend some time observing before jumping into the fray.

Finally, don’t get discouraged by the learning curve; every monster you hunt teaches you something new. Have fun, and may your hunts be successful!
