Believe it or not….Games Done Quick is entering its tenth year! And Awesome Games Done Quick, the marathon that started it all, is returning this weekend with a week’s worth of dizzying speedruns. Watch your favorite games get glitched, torn apart and busted in minutes….live! It’s for a good cause.
One recent development of GDQ has been the annual lengthy marathon of a Final Fantasy title. Both FF7 and FF9 had record-busting playthroughs lasting nine hours, and this year Final Fantasy 8 joins the club. The speedrun begins late night January 7, and doesn’t let up until the final confrontation with Ultimecia on the morning of January 8.
GDQ hasn’t always kept up with the latest titles, but this time Untitled Goose Game made the cutoff date, thanks to a last-minute replacement submission period (the list also claims Link’s Awakening 2019 made it in, but it doesn’t appear to be on the schedule).
