[Autumn J-Drama]Ryusei no Kizuna 2008(Ninomiya Kazunari, Nishikido Ryo)

Yay, another great drama, or at least the first episode was pretty darn good. The pacing was kinda all over the place, though, and it looks like there's a tad bit of trouble balancing the drama with the comedy, mostly sticking the drama to 1993 when they were still kids, but otherwise it was a pretty good first episode.

I love Nino as the older brother, reminds me a bit of how he played Taro, just with a tad bit more seriousness (and creepy stalker XD) aspects thrown into his character. I don't know why, but I found that "drama within a drama" thing so funny, especially when they interlaced it with shots of the manga it seemed to be based on. Poor Taisuke got knocked around quite a bit in those shots. Ryo did a pretty good job as the reckless younger brother, his idea of swindling someone else to get the money Shi lost was pretty amusing, I loved that shot of Koichi and Taisuke fighting in the background as Shi tried to lure money out of that women. Speaking of Shi, Erika Toda did an awesome job, the character's loud and brash but still really self conscious, it'll be great to see how she changes over the course of the series.

I really like their child counterparts too, they're not the best child actors out there, but they certainly fit their roles well enough. The last scene was pretty depressing, though...having the kids sneak back in only to find their parents laying in puddles of blood was pretty heavy. I really hope they stick around for a good bit of the series.

I haven't read the book, so I'm curious as to what's in store for Kaname Jun's character, he didn't really seem to do much other than try to get to the shop earlier and earlier every day so he could grab some of that rice. The other characters were all pretty good too, I can totally see some decent confrontations coming from the three siblings wanting to kill their parents murderer while that older detective tries to make this his last case before he retires.

I'm late on this show, but I effing love it.

Somehow I was a little worried about Nino being Ryo's older brother, but they fit so well. Nino's such a ridiculously beastly actor, and Ryo was the perfect younger brother. I love the interaction between the three siblings; the scenes where all three are together are probably my favorite part of the show. And Erika...omg. <3

The show's a strange balance but so far it seems to be working. I'm hoping toward the end it becomes a little less light and they figure everything out.

The kid actors are great, especially Saito-kun. He was good in TattaKoi, but he was perfect in this, I thought.

ok sorry, I just had to say this.
The end of Episode 9 is MINDBLOWING!

I usually can stand spoilers because I'd still enjoy the show anyway, but thanks for putting "it would ruin the entire point of watching this series," lol.

I watched the SARS subs, so I need to wait five more episodes before I can have my mind blown. :[
