Are We Missing the Mark on Anime Adaptations of Video Games?

With the rise of video game adaptations in anime, I can’t help but wonder if we're truly capturing the essence of what makes these games great. I mean, just look at the recent adaptation of "The Witcher" featuring anime aesthetics, there were some hits and misses in terms of translation to animation.

Take "Dota: Dragon's Blood" for instance; I thought it did a decent job blending lore with stunning visuals, yet something felt off for those who were deeply invested in the game. And then there's "Pokémon," which has been around forever but seems to be trying to find new ways to adapt its content, and sometimes they hit home runs and sometimes they don't.

Do you think these adaptations do justice to the source material, or is there a disconnect happening? What are some adaptations you thought were brilliant, and which ones totally fell flat? Let’s see where the opinions land!

There's definitely a mixed bag when it comes to anime adaptations of video games. "Dota: Dragon's Blood" had some beautiful animation and solid character development, but you're right, fans of the game might feel like it didn’t capture the full essence of the lore. It's always a balancing act, and sometimes it feels like the creators are leaning more on visual appeal than staying true to the source material.

On the flip side, I thought "Castlevania" was a great adaptation that really respected the game's dark atmosphere and character depth. It felt like they honored the source while also bringing something new to the table. As for flops, I think "Dragon's Dogma" missed the mark with its storytelling and pacing. What adaptations do you feel really nailed the material?
