Anyone against the casting of "The Last Airbender"?

I'd care, but I'm sane and it happens all the time sadly.

American playing English/Scottish/Irish (see Boondock Saints). English playing American (see House). White people playing American Indians (See Last of the Mohicans). Chinese people playing Japanese (see Memoirs of a Geisha). I could go on and on.

So, would've been nice, but I was never holding my breath.

The Last Samurai had Asian actors as major roles so there's hope.


When the Dragonball film came out ,many in my school were outraged by the white actors and were making fun of it. Actually Americans playing Enlgish /Irish or Scottish roles ain't much of a big deal as long as they can pull the accent off. I saw Last of the Mohicans and while they did have the main character done by a white guy , he pulled it off perfectly.

Japanese people are a result of a blending of the various Chines ,and Korean and native groups from some time ago and again pulled their roles perfectly.

But I'm not so sure about how they are going to pull off Katara and Sokka, because to put it frankly, they would have to change their skin color in order to be darker artificially or digitally. Anyways , the irony of it all is that Sokka was one of the darkest character on the show while Zuko was the lightest of the show, and having it switched seems strange. That's why I suggested Dev Patel to be Sokka.

We can still make a difference through spreading the word and boycotting the film, that would show them that racial discrimination in casting is wrong and will lose them money.

And did I mention that there will be no Chinese calligraphy whatsoever? The Sokkasode with him and his sword master will be screwed if it's true.
