What are the Collision Awards? According to their official description, they are “the first global and holistic platform solely dedicated to honoring excellence in Animation and Motion Design in all its forms.” Animated movies and TV shows are nominated by a jury of industry experts, and the public chooses their favorites from the list. This year ten anime shows and movies were picked for the Collision Awards, several competing against each other for the same category. Crunchyroll sent us this list of ’em: Attack on Titan: THE LAST ATTACK for Best in Style – Film BLUE LOCK THE MOVIE -EPISODE NAGI- for Best Film HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle for Best Film HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle for Best in Style – Film SPY x FAMILY CODE: White for Best Film Dr. STONE NEW WORLD – Season 3 for Best Series – Mature Audience Kaiju No. 8 – Season 1 for Best Series – Action & Adventure Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow- for Best Series – Fantasy & Sci-Fi Solo Leveling Season 2 -Arise from the Shadow- for Best in Style – Television The Apothecary Diaries – Season 1 for Best Series – Drama Whelp. I’m actually a bit disappointed that Dan Da Dan didn’t get nominated. It had some of the most original animation sequences this year, especially during the action-comedy scenes. I know these awards are about “style and design,” but Dan Da Dan blends different tones so well. That kind of creativity should be recognized too. I don’t hate the nominees, I just think the jury needs to expand their view a bit. It always feels like the same shows get picked.

I voted for Solo Leveling Season 2. No question. The animation got better, and they finally gave Jin-Woo the emotional scenes he deserved. The action scenes? Best in class. I hope it wins both categories it’s nominated for.

I understand the nominations, especially with something like The Apothecary Diaries. That show had strong writing, subtle visuals, and a great atmosphere. It was very different from the usual flashy anime that tend to get awards. It’s nice to see mature and slower-paced works getting recognition. I think this is a good step for animation awards in general.

Seeing Haikyuu!! on the list made me emotional. I’ve followed those boys since the beginning, and “The Dumpster Battle” was everything I wanted. It was intense but also heartfelt. The style nomination is well deserved, but I honestly think it should win Best Film too. No other sports anime captures raw effort like Haikyuu does. This series meant so much to me as a former volleyball player.

So, Spy x Family gets nominated again. Of course it does. I like the series, but it’s starting to feel like it gets awards just for being popular. I would’ve liked to see something smaller or less commercialized in that spot. There’s great work coming from lesser-known studios, but they get passed over because they don’t trend on Twitter.

I actually didn’t know about the Collision Awards until now, but I think this is a cool initiative. It’s nice that there’s an award show focused on animation without lumping everything together into one “best cartoon” category. I haven’t seen all the nominees, but this gave me a great watchlist. I’m especially interested in Kaiju No. 8. Heard a lot of good things.

I voted for Dr. STONE NEW WORLD. It’s underrated compared to the others here. Season 3 gave us top-tier visual storytelling, and the science parts were handled with even more polish than before. People tend to overlook Dr. STONE because it’s not about big battles, but the ideas are huge, and the animation style supports that perfectly.

Not gonna lie, I was shocked Dan Da Dan wasn’t there. That show had me laughing, gasping, and pausing to screenshot. I know it’s not everyone’s taste, but man, the animation in that manga club fight scene? Art. I’ll still vote, but I’ll be bitter about this for a while.
