Haircuts are based only on a few established styles. There is the shag cut, the mullet, the flattop, the layer (similar to the shag but different in the way it's cut) and the buzz cut (I might be missing a couple). From there, it depends on the stylist and how the hair is actually cut - scissors, razor (type of razor because there are two types) or shears OR a combination of one or more implements.

I went to cosmetology school as a teenager (a vocational is required in my state so I took cosmetology instead of farming, automotive or shop though I wish I took shop instead since that would come in handy right now in remodeling our house). I had the credits to get my license but chose not to get my full cosmetology license. Wish I did though since I could buy and resell stuff to cosplayers.

I do offer tips over on Cosplay.com's forums from time to time. Most of the time it falls on deaf ears by those who rather listen to myths and ol' wivestales.

My mother is a licensed costmetologist instructor (which is another reason why I took the courses... that and this super hot guy I had the hots for back then) and while I still can get stuff for myself but not for resell. Oh, I still remember a great deal of the history of cosmetology along with anatomy and other stuff, I don't remember how to cut hair.

PLUS on top of that I have arthritis in my hands so holding small things for long periods of time (like scissors) hurts my hands. That's why I tend to eat with chopsticks so I can keep my hands flexible without tiring them out. It hurts like hell when your fingers lock up then "snap" back into place. I can't cut hair and also due to my sensitivity to chemicals, I can't worth stuff like perm solutions or hair straightening lotions. I can still touch hydrogen peroxide (in hair dye developer) but I'm waiting for the day I become allergic to that. So a career in cosmetology is out of the question.

My passion though is in makeup but again, arthritis in my hands prevents me from doing that since it requires handling thin brushes. Bad for my hands and knuckles. I wish I could work with cosplayers in that field because I love it.
