It's exciting to see the 2026 Emmy nominations come out! I'm curious to know which shows got nominated for best drama and comedy. Any favorites from this year's list that you're rooting for?

I was surprised by how many nominations The Pitt got. It really feels like the Academy couldn't stop checking that show off in every category. I still think some great shows probably missed out, but that's normal every year. I'm also happy to see animation and music getting some attention because those categories are usually ignored by a lot of viewers. I'm definitely paying more attention to the Creative Arts Emmys this year than I usually do.

 

[Blond Ambition]

South Park getting so much love is funny to me, but I honestly think it earned it. The show has been around forever, and it still finds ways to stay relevant without feeling tired. Trey Parker getting recognized for voice acting makes sense because people forget how many different characters he performs. I also hope "Christian Woman" wins Original Song because South Park songs always stay in my head longer than songs from most TV musicals.

I'm mostly looking at the drama categories, and The Pitt is the one I'm rooting for. It had a really strong season, so seeing all those acting nominations wasn't shocking. Gary Oldman for Slow Horses is another one I'd love to see win because he has been excellent for years. Drama looks much more competitive than comedy this time.

I know people will complain about snubs like they do every single year, but that's impossible to avoid when there are so many good shows. Looking through the list, I found several series I haven't watched yet, so now I have a few things to add to my watchlist. That's one thing I actually enjoy about award nominations because they remind me of shows I completely missed.

I am mostly here for the comedy nominations, and I think that field has some nice variety. Abbott Elementary staying in the mix feels right because it still has a warm, easy rhythm. Hacks also keeps proving it belongs at the top. I know some people are tired of seeing the same titles, but I do not think a show should be punished for being consistently good. I am also surprised in a good way by Margo’s Got Money Troubles and Widow’s Bay showing up in multiple places. That gives the list some fresh energy. The only thing I do not love is how a few comedy categories feel stacked with familiar names, but that happens every year. I still prefer a list like this over one that tries too hard to be strange

I am glad to see Survivor still showing up in reality TV. That is the one nomination here that makes me feel like the voters still remember what people actually watch week after week. The Traitors, Top Chef, and RuPaul’s Drag Race also make sense to me because they have a strong identity. I like when reality categories include shows that are clearly different from one another instead of just a bunch of similar competition formats. On the variety side, I am not shocked by the usual names, but I do like seeing The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Last Week Tonight still there. That feels stable in a good way. I also think the live special category is stronger than people may admit. Those events are built for large audiences, and the nominations reflect that. Overall, I think the reality and variety sections are steady and fair.

I am probably the exact person these nominations lists are made for, because I love seeing all the categories at once. It gives me a better sense of what the industry values this time around. I think the strongest thing here is the range. One minute it is animation, then visual effects, then music, then drama, comedy, and reality. That variety makes the whole thing feel bigger than one or two prestige shows. I do think some categories are obviously stacked, especially when one show keeps showing up again and again, but that is not always a bad sign. It often means the show had real support across the board. I also like seeing names like Julie Andrews, Steven Yeun, and Lady Gaga in the same larger awards cycle. That kind of mix keeps it interesting.
