I remember buying that Rhino CD used for way too much money back in college. Just to have a few tracks from Out of the Past on repeat. Now we get 75 more tracks remastered and I don't have to feel guilty about spending rent money on a CD. Shirley Walker really understood how to make a future Gotham feel lonely and dangerous at the same time. The industrial sound she picked for this show still holds up better than most current superhero scores. Honestly Batman Beyond gets slept on compared to the older series but the music alone proves how serious the team was about building that world. Glad Dynamic Soundtrack Records is doing this properly instead of just tossing it on streaming with zero care.

I never watched Batman Beyond growing up, I was too busy with other stuff, but reading this makes me curious about the show itself, not just the music. Sounds like it was ahead of its time for a cartoon back then. Might actually go stream it this weekend before listening to the soundtrack so I understand the context better. Also respect to these composers working for 30 years and getting so many Emmy nominations without much mainstream recognition outside the fan community. People underestimate how much a good score adds to a series, especially one with a futuristic and darker tone like this one. Good write up, learned something new today.

King's Ransom introducing the Royal Flush Gang was such a strong season opener. Nice to see season 3 finally getting proper attention with this volume, that season doesn't get talked about enough compared to the first two.
