The idea of rebooting Harry Potter reminds me of how I felt when I heard about the new Marvel Spider-Man films after growing up with Tobey Maguire's version; it was both exciting and terrifying seeing a familiar story reimagined. Do you think they'll capture the same magic, or is it destined to disappoint?

I still cant believe they are doing this again after the movies already exist and did so well. HBO must really think people forgot the old ones. I guess making it a series instead of movie gives more room for details from the books that got cut before, that part I am actually curious about. But recasting everyone means we lose that connection we had with the original actors, they grew up on screen and now it feels replaced. The cast list is huge though, they really went all out with casting even small roles like Cuthbert Binns. I hope the writing keeps the humor and doesn't try too hard to be dark and serious like a lot of reboots do these days. Christmas release makes sense for family viewing. Still on the fence if I will watch it or just rewatch the originals instead honestly.

Not gonna lie, seeing Nick Frost as Hagrid got me interested more than I expected.

I was a kid when the first Harry Potter movie came out, so yes, this reboot makes me feel old. I am not angry about it, though. The books are big enough that another adaptation does not bother me. What interests me is seeing Hogwarts with modern production design and more time for the smaller characters. Neville, the Weasley family, Draco, and even some of the teachers can get more attention this time. I also want to see how they handle the early friendship between Harry, Ron, and Hermione. That part worked well in the movies, but there is still more from the books that could be used. I am going to watch the first episode before judging the cast. The teaser needs to show me the tone first. I am curious, but I am not expecting magic on day one.

I honestly did not think we needed another Harry Potter adaptation, but I will still watch it. The original movies are still easy for me to revisit, so this new version has to offer something different. The bigger cast gives me some hope. I want more time with characters who felt like background figures before. Professor McGonagall, Filch, Neville, the Weasleys, and the other students could all benefit from that. I am also curious about the visual design because Hogwarts has been seen so many times already. They need to make it feel familiar without simply copying the old movies. That is probably the hardest part. I am not going into this expecting perfection. If the actors have good chemistry and the writing stays close to the books, I think I will have a good time watching it.

This is exactly why the industry feels stuck right now, nobody wants to make something new, they just keep repackaging old stories because it guarantees money. I get why from a business side, Harry Potter brand is worth billions, but creatively it feels lazy. John Lithgow as Dumbledore is an interesting choice though, he has the presence for it. I wonder how they will handle certain book scenes the movies skipped, that could be the only real selling point here

The Snape casting is going to start arguments before the first episode even airs. That is guaranteed. I remember when the original movies were being cast, and people had strong opinions about almost everyone. Now we get to do it all over again. Personally, I am more interested in the child actors because Harry, Ron, and Hermione carry so much of the story. They need to feel like actual kids becoming friends, not three young actors trying to imitate Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson. I also like the idea of seeing more of the school year itself. The first movie had to move pretty quickly through everything. A series can slow down and show the friendships, classes, rivalries, and weird little Hogwarts moments. That is the part I hope they focus on most.
