You might have been staring at the Gamecube lineup on Switch 2’s NSO and saying, “Where’s Luigi’s Mansion? It’s spooky season, I’m in the mood.” It took until the eleventh witching hour, but Nintendo finally responded. Luigi’s Mansion will be added to Nintendo Switch Online one week from now, October 30. Luigi has been exploring mansions for so long, it’s hard to remember a time when he didn’t. Back in 2001 he won a mansion in a contest, but when Mario went to check it out, he disappeared within its stately halls. Turns out the mansion was haunted, and that’s probably why it was free. With the help of his new professor friend Elvin Gadd, Luigi dons the latest in ghost-suck technology and becomes a Ghostbuster, though he’s nervous about the experience the whole way. Now for a confession: I haven’t played ANY Luigi’s Mansion game. Yes, I’m a big fat Nintendo fanatic but this is a corner of the Mario Universe I’ve just never gotten around to exploring. When I got my Gamecubs, Smash Bros Melee was the first game I bought. This will be fully new to me, assuming I can find the time to play it. With […]

I think this is perfect timing. Every October I look for something spooky but not too scary, and Luigi’s Mansion fits that perfectly. I remember playing it with my cousins when I was a kid, and the sound effects alone gave us chills. Having it on Switch Online means I can finally revisit it without needing to hook up old hardware.

This is great news. I missed Luigi’s Mansion back when it first came out, so this is my chance to finally play it. I’ve played Luigi’s Mansion 3 and loved it, especially how expressive Luigi is. He’s not your typical brave hero, and that’s what I like about him. I think this release will make a lot of nostalgic players happy.

The lineup on Switch Online has been slow, but adding Luigi’s Mansion is a big step. I hope this means Nintendo will start adding more GameCube titles soon. People have been waiting for years for classics like Eternal Darkness or F-Zero GX. This release gives me hope that they are finally opening up the vault.

I grew up with the first Luigi’s Mansion, and it still feels special to me. It was different from other Mario games because it focused on atmosphere instead of fast action. The lighting, the music, and Luigi’s scared reactions gave it personality. I’m glad Nintendo is finally adding it to Switch Online. Younger players who only know Luigi’s Mansion 3 will finally see where it started.

When I played Luigi’s Mansion as a kid, I didn’t even realize how technically impressive it was. The dynamic shadows and realistic flashlight effects looked incredible back then. Seeing it again in 2025 will be a fun reminder of how creative the GameCube era really was. It’s funny how this took so long. Luigi’s Mansion is one of Nintendo’s most fitting titles for Halloween season. I remember being amazed by how expressive Luigi was, shaking as he opened doors. I still find it charming that the story starts because he “won” a haunted mansion. Classic Nintendo humor.
