Here’s How Long The First Half Of Stranger Things 5 Is

Ever since the fifth season of Stranger Things was first announced people have been spreading rumors about how long it is. Many made the claim that each episode would be feature-length, or at least 90 minutes long. These stories were based on the “evidence” that the season cost a ton ($60 million an episode is the final figure) and took an entire year to film, so how could it be short? Also, someone involved said the episodes would be “super-sized.” But someone else said the season would be shorter. Who was right? Thanks to a post from Ross Duffer’s Instagram we now have a definitive answer to this. The length of the four episodes that are premiering this Thanksgiving is….a typical one, about an hour each. The exception is the fourth episode which managed to ALMOST crack 90 minutes. Chapter One: The Crawl — 1 hour and 8 minutes Chapter Two: The Vanishing Of… — 54 minutes Chapter Three: The Turnbow Trap — 1 hour and 6 minutes Chapter Four: Sorcerer — 1 hour and 23 minutes Add ’em all up and it will take 271 minutes to binge this batch, or 4 1/2 hours. Plan your bathroom breaks accordingly. […]

What the Duffer Brothers did not make all episodes overly long.? Managing attention is important, and hour-long episodes are easier to follow. I think the almost 90-minute fourth episode will be critical, maybe revealing new threats or character developments. The hidden part of the second episode’s title is clever because it prevents spoilers while keeping speculation alive. I am especially interested in how they will maintain suspense across these first four episodes. The setup feels like it will be very engaging.

The runtime feels right because too long episodes can get boring, but about an hour is enough for suspense and plot development. I think Max vanishing is a likely scenario, and the fourth episode’s length hints that something major will happen. The titles are cryptic, which is fun because they make fans think about possible events. I already have my snacks and time ready to watch all four episodes back-to-back.

I think the article gives a clear and useful summary. Four and a half hours for four episodes seems perfect. Not too short, not too long. I like that only one episode is almost feature-length. It allows for important moments to be given more time without slowing down other parts of the story. I am also interested in how the first few episodes set the stage. The Turnbow Trap and the vanished character are the main points I am looking forward to. I plan to watch them carefully and not skip anything because I want to understand all the clues.

spans several extended episodes, with total runtime comparable to a full traditional season rather than a short split release.
