Nefflix put out a new featurette hyping Stranger Things 5 this morning. If you’re hoping to see anything you haven’t before, there’s not much in the way of that. This is mostly a piece where the actors talk about their experience working on the show. While you can spot some never before seen material, it’s mostly shots of the Season 5 sets, with the actors performing against a blue screen. It’s meant to fill a gap while the post-production and special effects crew work tirelessly to finish the season, so they have some new clips ready for later. “It’s more of an adventure and more of a mission, which I really like,” says Millie Bobby Brown. “Everybody is really put into the thick of it. No one is sitting back on a walkie-talkie. Everyone is full throttle, going for it.” Winona Ryder says “I got to watch these kids grow, which is the biggest gift that this show has given me.” She sounds easy to shop for. “We’ve come full circle. The fans will be truly satisfied with the ending,” says Caleb McLaughlin. Only if El lives! Despite this being mostly a clip show, it does do its job of hyping […]

When I watch this now, it honestly makes me feel like a grandpa. I still remember when Stranger Things first started and the cast looked like little kids, almost babies. Back then, they were riding bikes and running around Hawkins like they were straight out of the 80s. Now I look at the news and see Millie Bobby Brown getting married and most of the others either in or finishing college. It feels like time passed too fast. I grew older while watching them grow up, and sometimes I cannot believe how many years have gone by since season one. For me, it is not just a TV show anymore, it is like looking at a family album where you see children slowly turn into adults. It gives me pride in a strange way, because I followed their journey from the beginning, but it also makes me a bit sad, because it means the end is really here. This season closing the story feels like watching the last chapter of a long part of my life.

I do not mind that the featurette did not show much new footage. I think it is better to keep things secret until the season comes out. Stranger Things is one of the few shows where I prefer to be surprised instead of spoiled. The cast talking about their growth and memories is meaningful for me because I watched the characters grow too. Millie Bobby Brown saying that this season feels like a mission makes me excited. It tells me they are going to face the biggest challenge yet, and it feels like everyone will be directly involved in the danger.

Winona Ryder said watching the kids grow has been her biggest gift. It made me emotional because I also feel that way as a viewer. I started watching when the actors were still children, and now they are adults. Seeing this growth over the years is like seeing relatives you do not meet often but watch change from afar. I think that makes the show special.

Caleb McLaughlin saying “the fans will be truly satisfied” gives me hope. Endings are hard to make, and I worry about that. Many shows collapse in the finale. If the cast feels strongly about it, maybe the Duffers planned the story well. I just hope Eleven does not die. For me, the heart of Stranger Things has always been her relationship with the others. Ending it with her sacrifice would feel cruel.

I like hearing Millie Bobby Brown speak about the season as if it is bigger and more active. She has always been the center of the story, but sometimes in past seasons she was sidelined. The idea that everyone will be in the thick of action sounds like a proper conclusion. If all the characters are truly united, then the story will have a stronger payoff.
