Tonight is the night! The zombies will soon rise to feast again…on your gaming table. Evil Genius Games presents the official Return of the Living Dead TTRPG, which launched its Kickstarter not too long ago and blew through its initial funding goal in just three hours. Return of the Living Dead: The Official TTRPG runs on the Everyday Heroes engine, which was developed by Evil Genius for the RPG of that same name. The system was itself based on d20 Modern and updated for the 5th edition. The game’s premise is based on George Romero’s horror classic Return of the Living Dead, which if you can believe it or not was based “on true events” according to the game’s backstory. “Return of the Living Dead brings you endless morbid zombie mayhem,” says Evil Genius. “Tear them apart. Blow them up. Burn them to a crisp. They just keep coming!” Rules for zombification and the deadly 245 Trioxin that causes it. The dead rise! Encounter zombies that are smart, fast, and near indestructible. Learn how to defeat an enemy that cannot die with new incapacitation rules and new equipment designed to battle the undead. Ah, the Return of the Living Dead TTRPG! This sounds like such a thrilling addition to the tabletop RPG world. The mix of d20 Modern and 5th edition mechanics has a lot of potential for exciting gameplay. I’m curious to see how the Everyday Heroes engine adapts to the zombie apocalypse setting.

The idea of encountering smart, fast, and near-indestructible zombies is both terrifying and intriguing from a gameplay perspective. It really raises the stakes for players and challenges them to think strategically. I wonder how the incapacitation rules and new equipment will factor into the survival mechanics against such relentless undead enemies.

Zombification and the 245 Trioxin element seem like they could add some interesting twists to character arcs and storytelling. It’s always fun to explore the consequences of infection in apocalyptic settings.

Overall, it sounds like Return of the Living Dead TTRPG offers a fresh take on the zombie genre with some unique gameplay mechanics. I can’t wait to hear more about how players navigate this undead-filled world and what kind of memorable stories come out of their campaigns. Happy gaming to all the brave souls diving into this zombie-infested tabletop adventure!

I’ve been a fan of d20 systems since I was a teen, and seeing Return of the Living Dead adapted into a full TTRPG using Everyday Heroes is a smart move. The flexibility of that engine lets you easily add horror elements without breaking balance. What caught my eye most were the incapacitation rules and zombification mechanics. Most zombie games fail to make the undead feel threatening beyond the first few encounters, but this sounds like it’s aiming for high lethality. I’m backing the $75 tier because I don’t own Everyday Heroes yet, and this seems like the perfect excuse. The setting idea of different decades per adventure is clever. I hope they include music cues or cultural references that reflect each era. That would really help the immersion.

This game better have solid stat blocks and loot tables. I don’t care about the lore that much. I just want good combat and builds that let you go crazy on zombies. Tarman and Split Dogs better have boss-tier stats. Also, I hope this doesn’t pull a bait and switch where they nerf the cool stuff to make it “balanced.” I’m backing it just to test the mechanics, but if it’s all fluff, I’m out.

I hope the book has beautiful illustrations. I do not play these games often, but I collect the books. I display them on a shelf, and sometimes I read them for story ideas. Return of the Living Dead was strange and creative. The idea of zombies that never die sounds very hard for players. But I think that’s interesting. I might get the $50 tier if the digital accessories include posters or artwork.
