Picture this…your party is venturing through the dungeon when they come across the most dreaded danger of all: a variant of the Beholder made entirely of tater matter. It’s not a Dungeon Meshi episode, it’s real life! Collectible makers WizKids revealed the existence of the D&D Icons of the Realms: Potato Head Beholder Boxed Miniature this week at the GAMA Expo. Towering at an intimidating three inches tall, this dangerous beast will make an instant impression the moment it appears on any dungeon map. The Potato Head Beholder possesses not just the powers of a Beholder but that of a Potato Head as well. It comes with a full suite of accessories for you to mix and match to tailor for maximum terror: 8 Eye Stalks 1 Fire Ray Eye Stalk 1 Lightning Ray Eye Stalk 1 Central Eye 1 Central Eye with Lashes 1 Angry Central Eye 1 Pair of Glasses 1 Bag of Holding 1 Hat 1 Moustache Mouth 1 Fanged Mouth 1 Pair of Red Lips 1 Tongue Let’s tilt it sideways to examine its ghastly features further. That’s right, it’s shooting fire beams from one eye and ice beams from another eye at the same time. […]

I’m mostly curious about the paint job and quality of this piece. WizKids can be hit or miss when it comes to details, so I hope this one looks as good in person as it does in promo shots. The swappable parts are a great idea, though—I’d love to see more D&D minis with customization like this. If the event exclusive version has even weirder accessories, I might have to hunt it down.

$25 isn’t bad for a novelty mini, but I wonder how big it actually feels in person. Three inches is decent, but I’d need to see the sculpt in hand before pulling the trigger. That said, the idea is really fun, and I could see using this in a game even outside of D&D—maybe a homebrew monster in another system? I’ll wait to see reviews before committing, but it’s tempting.

I know this is supposed to be funny, but honestly? It looks kind of terrifying. Something about the mix of googly-eyed Potato Head features with the classic Beholder design makes it even creepier than a regular Beholder. The central eye with lashes freaks me out the most—it’s like it’s staring straight into my soul. And those fanged mouths? Nightmare fuel. If I saw this thing pop up in a game, I wouldn’t be laughing—I’d be running.
