We previously reported that Dynamite’s Classic Thundercats Omnibus would wrap up its crowdfunding campaign weeks ago, but actually, Dynamite decided to extend the campaign through the end of january. That means if you’ve been on the fence, you have some more time to decide…and it also means another livestream with Lion-O voice actor Larry Kenney. This time, he’ll be joined by Mark Spears, artist for Dynamite’s new Thundercats series. It will be mainly a Q&A where viewers and cat-fans will be able to “ask the guests anything you want to know about Thundercats – and hear some wonderful stories about the history and excitement behind the Thundercats Omnibus.” The livestream takes place not too long from now, 12 noon Pacific / 3 PM Eastern…keep an eye on the Backerkit page today because it will host the video shortly. The Thundercats omnibus is being offered as one volume in hardcover, or two volumes in paperback. The paperbacks are a $40 pledge each, but the $100 hardcover will be printed at a larger size and use exclusive art (you can choose between the original 1985 art, or a homage drawn by Declan Shalvey). That livestream was a treat! Larry Kenney’s stories about voicing Lion-O were pure nostalgia, and you could tell how much he genuinely loves the character. Mark Spears also gave some fascinating insights into the creative process for the new series—his enthusiasm really sold me. I’ve been debating which version to get, but after seeing the hardcover’s exclusive art and hearing about the stretch goals, I think I’m going for the $100 version. The mini-print and cover variants alone make it worth it. It’s great to see the fandom getting this level of care and attention!

Mark Spears blew me away during the livestream. He’s clearly passionate about his work, and seeing his artistic perspective made me appreciate the new series even more. The exclusive hardcover art looks gorgeous, and the Declan Shalvey homage cover is stunning. I’m not even the biggest Thundercats fan, but as someone who loves well-crafted comics, this might be too good to pass up. The free stretch goal prints are a nice touch too!
