You are of course familiar with Live Play streams of tabletop games like D&D. Imagine a Live Play that’s truly live — meaning you pay a ticket and watch the party play on a theater stage. Not only that, you can influence what happens. That’s the appeal behind Dungeons & Dragons: The Twenty-Sided Tavern, a production that’s been running in New York these past few months. Officially licensed by Wizards of the Coast, it’s enough of a success that the run in NYC has been extended and a nationwide tour is being planned. Here’s how this works: each member of the audience loads a browser-based app called Gamiotics that allows them to vote on which way the story will go next. They vote on what characters appear, what they encounter, and what incidents befall them. There are even moments when members of the audience are invited upstage to participate in games like trivia, charades, and Fantasy Beer Pong. The production launched last May to good reviews. “It’s clear that The

Dude, this sounds epic! Imagine getting to actually influence a D&D campaign live? Plus, playing Fantasy Beer Pong on stage? Sign me up! This is like the ultimate crossover between watching streams and playing myself. I wonder if they'll let me roll the actual dice for some decisions... that would be next level. National tour in May 2025, huh? Gotta keep an eye out for tickets

Hmm, not sure I'm sold. I love D&D, but wouldn't it be kind of chaotic having a whole audience vote on everything? Feels like it could take forever and the story might end up all over the place. Plus, wouldn't it be weird being picked to go on stage? I get the appeal for some people, but I think I'd stick to my regular gaming group, Also I'm from the UK.

OMG, a D&D themed party with like 500 people?! This sounds like SO much fun! I can already imagine the costumes, the energy, the whole atmosphere. Even if the actual gameplay gets a little messy, the opportunity to meet other D&D fans and just have a good time with this interactive experience is awesome.

This Gamiotics app sounds pretty cool! I'm curious about how it integrates with the live performance. Is it real-time voting? Does it track audience preferences throughout the show? There's a lot of potential for interactive theater experiences with this kind of technology. Definitely something to keep an eye on!

Live D&D with audience participation? That's a cool idea, but honestly, with my schedule, who has time for a whole theater production? Maybe they'll release a shorter, online version of the show someday. Or a downloadable script with audience choice points – that could be fun to try with my own gaming group.

This is both exciting and terrifying! As a DM myself, I can see the potential for hilarious audience choices and unexpected twists. But on the other hand, wouldn't it be frustrating to have your carefully crafted campaign thrown into chaos by random audience votes? Still, the idea is innovative, and I'd love to see it in action sometime. Maybe I can snag tickets for the SDCC panel!

I’m so thrilled about this! Combining theater with an interactive D&D experience is genius. It brings the magic of tabletop gaming to life in a way that engages the audience directly. I’ve attended similar interactive shows before, and the energy in the room is always electric. With Dungeons & Dragons: The Twenty-Sided Tavern, fans can experience the thrill of influencing the story live, which adds a whole new layer of excitement. Plus, the incorporation of games like trivia and Fantasy Beer Pong sounds like a blast. I can’t wait for the national tour to kick off—I’ll definitely be getting my tickets early!

This sounds like a fun night out! I’ve played D&D a few times with friends, and it’s always a good time, but I’m not super hardcore about it. The idea of going to a theater and participating in the game without the pressure of being a player sounds perfect for me. I love interactive experiences, and this seems like it would be hilarious and entertaining. Plus, getting to vote on story decisions and play games like Fantasy Beer Pong? Sign me up! I’m definitely interested in checking out The Twenty-Sided Tavern when it hits the road.
