“Nintendo World Championships” For Switch Revealed By ESRB

Nintendo is usually the best out of all the video game companies at keeping secrets, but no institution is 100% leak proof. It seems the Entertainment Software Ratings Board just outed an unannounced Switch game, called “Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition.” The description reads as follows: “This is a collection of 2D challenges and platformer games in which players traverse through various modes (e.g., speedrun, survival). Several challenges involve reaching specific points, while others prompt players to defeat small enemies or survive brief battles. Some games depict pixelated characters using small swords or arrows to strike at enemies; enemies typically get stunned or disappear in a flash.” The game is rated E. Fans were instantly reminded of NES Remix and its sequel, which were released on the Wii U and 3DS ten years ago. The NES Remix games presented the player with a gauntlet of short activities from various NES games. You were given one goal and ordered to accomplish it in a few seconds, followed by another goal, etc.

NES Remix on Switch? Sign me up! I loved those quick, bite-sized challenges that tested your knowledge of classic NES games. This "Nintendo World Championships" twist sounds intriguing. Maybe it'll have some historical context or even recreate some of the original competition's challenges. Fingers crossed!

"In-app purchases" on a Nintendo game? That gives me pause. I hope this isn't some freemium nightmare where you have to pay extra for every single challenge. As long as it stays true to the spirit of NES Remix and doesn't nickel and dime us, I'm cautiously optimistic.

This could be the perfect nostalgia trip for anyone who loved NES Remix. It's great to see Nintendo revisiting this concept, especially if they add new challenges and game modes. Here's hoping they officially announce it soon and quell any fears about the "in-app purchases" situation.
