“The Chase” is a 2017 Korean drama movie, based on the 2010 Korean webcomic “Aridong’s Last Cowboy”, and categorized as Thriller and Suspense, and Crime and Mystery. ♦ Deaths Recorded as Suicides, Natural Causes or Accidents Might Be Murders “The Chase” begins by introducing Shim Deok-Su, who came from North Korea and now owns of an apartment complex in South Korea where many of the tenants don’t pay their rent. He grumbles and complains and threatens, but he usually never evicts them. For some reason crimes are taking place in his neighborhood, and there are tenants in his building who are victims. However the police record the deaths as suicides, natural causes, or accidents. One day Shim Deok-Su visits one of his non-paying tenants. The tenant used to be a detective and tells him that the deaths that are occurring now, happened 30 years ago. He said the police are handling the cases the same way they did in the past. After that unsettling conversation, Shim Deok-Su, realizing that he

"The Chase" really takes me back! I remember going in blind, expecting a typical detective thriller, and then getting smacked with the whole 30-year-old murders twist. Sung Dong-il as the haunted ex-cop was perfect. And Baek Yoon-sik brought the grumpy landlord energy like nobody's business. It wasn't perfect, sure, a bit cliche by today's standards, but for a good, suspenseful watch with veteran actors, "The Chase" delivered. Might have to give it a rewatch sometime!

Remember the whole "Olympics overshadowed the investigation" angle? Felt a bit heavy-handed, but it added a layer of social commentary that stuck with me. Plus, seeing two veteran actors like Sung Dong-il and Baek Yoon-sik share the screen? Always a win. Would recommend it if you're looking for a solid Korean crime thriller without anything too fancy.

What can I say about this movie. A fun watch, but forgettable. I enjoyed the initial mystery and the dynamic between the grumpy landlord and the ex-cop. But come on, another serial killer movie? Korean cinema has done that trope to death. And the resolution felt rushed, like they ran out of steam halfway through the second act. Don't get me wrong, the acting was solid, especially Sung Dong-il. But overall, "The Chase" was a YAKSM, as the review says - Yet Another Korean Serial Killer Movie. Good for a one-time watch, but nothing that'll stay with you long.

Wow, "The Chase" coming up in my feed? Now that's a blast from the past! I remember being surprised by how much I liked it. Went in expecting a light detective story, but the whole 30-year connection floored me. It wasn't the most original plot, sure, but the way they weaved the past and present together kept me guessing. Plus, who could resist the grumpy chemistry between Baek Yoon-sik and Sung Dong-il? Their back-and-forth as the unlikely duo chasing a killer was pure gold. Maybe it wasn't a cinematic masterpiece, but for a well-paced thriller with strong performances, "The Chase" holds up. Makes me wonder if it's streaming anywhere these days...
