“Once Upon a Small Town” is a 2022 Limited Korean drama series, with 12 episodes, categorized as a romantic comedy, based on the web novel of the same name, streaming on Netflix. ♦ Grandpa Needs Me! “Once Upon a Small Town”, Han Ji-yul is a successful veterinarian who lives in Seoul. But he receives a distress message from his grandfather and rushes to Huidong Village (FUN LINK: 17 Amazing Rural Korea Getaways – Hedgers Abroad). His grandfather runs a pet hospital and Han Ji-yul fears the worst! As soon as he arrives to his grandfather’s house he gets body-slammed by a police officer before he even opens the gate. He was mistaken for being a burglar. The police officer demands his identification card. He gives it to her but she’s doesn’t release her grip on him. Instead, she keeps staring at his identification. Ultimately, the other police arrive and he gets taken away. The police apologize AFTER hauling him down to the police station. He is still in a panic

This sounds like an adorable rom-com! Fake dislike turned into love? Sign me up! Plus, the fact that the grumpy city vet clashes with the friendly small-town police officer is pure rom-com gold. And can we talk about the scenery? Filmed in the South Korean countryside? Sounds idyllic! I don't always need deep plots, sometimes I just want a sweet escape with a guaranteed happy ending. This definitely fits the bill!

Ugh, this drama sounds like my worst nightmare. Stuck in a tiny village treating farm animals? No thanks! I get that the whole "city boy meets small-town girl" trope is supposed to be cute, but honestly, it's cliche. Give me the fast-paced life of Seoul any day. And who falls for the same trick their grandpa pulled as a kid? Come on, Han Ji-yul, get a grip! Maybe I'll give it a try just for the laughs, but I doubt this small-town romance will win me over.

This drama sounds like a warm hug! City boy finds peace and love in the countryside? Yes, please! Reminds me of those heartwarming stories about slowing down and appreciating the simple things in life. Plus, the "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" reference? Sounds like it'll bring back some fun childhood memories. Throw in some beautiful Korean scenery, and I'm sold! This is definitely going on my watchlist.

Okay, first of all, can we talk about how gorgeous Joy looks in the trailer? Red Velvet is my favorite K-Pop group, so of course, I'm going to watch anything she's in. Who cares about the plot? Although, the whole city boy vs. small-town girl dynamic is cute. Plus, if it has rom-com vibes, I'm here for it! Maybe I'll pay more attention to the music and Joy's acting than the actual story.

Twelve short episodes? Perfect for a weekend binge! Lighthearted rom-com with a predictable plot? Sounds like exactly what I need to unwind after a long week. I don't need groundbreaking storytelling, sometimes I just want to escape into a cute, fluffy drama. Throw in some adorable animals and a bit of small-town charm, and I'm happy. This is going on my to-watch list for sure!

I just adore these kinds of stories! The premise of "Once Upon a Small Town" sounds heartwarming and charming. I love how Han Ji-yul, a city veterinarian, is thrown into this quaint village setting. The dynamic between him and Ahn Ja-Young seems like it will evolve beautifully, especially with their childhood connection. It's interesting to see how different their memories are of each other. I have a feeling that Ji-yul's stay in Huidong will soften him up and help him appreciate the simpler things in life. The beautiful rural backdrop is just a cherry on top for me. This is definitely going on my watch list.

This series looks like such a sweet escape! "Once Upon a Small Town" promises a lot of adorable moments, especially with the tension between Han Ji-yul and Ahn Ja-Young. The fact that they have a past connection adds so much depth to their interactions. It’s heartbreaking that Ji-yul doesn’t remember her, but that just means we’re in for a lot of touching moments as he starts to recall their childhood. I can’t wait to see how their relationship develops. The rural setting is just the perfect backdrop for a feel-good romantic comedy.

I’m not really sold on "Once Upon a Small Town." The plot seems pretty basic and the characters don’t immediately grab my attention. Han Ji-yul’s attitude towards the village is kind of off-putting, and the misunderstanding with the police feels like a forced comedic element. However, I can see why people might enjoy it for its simplicity and lightheartedness. The scenery might be a highlight, offering a nice visual experience. It’s not something I’d go out of my way to watch, but if I need something light and easy, I might give it a try.

I ended up watching "Once Upon a Small Town" out of curiosity, and it turned out to be quite enjoyable. While the plot is fairly predictable, the characters are likable and the setting is refreshing. Han Ji-yul’s transformation and his interactions with Ahn Ja-Young kept me engaged. The show does a good job of showcasing the charm of rural life, which is a nice change of pace from typical urban settings. It’s not a groundbreaking series, but it’s entertaining and easy to watch. If you’re looking for something light and pleasant, it’s a solid choice.
