Is the New "Spider-Man" Run Living Up to the Legacy?

I've been getting into the latest "Spider-Man" series written by Joe Kelly and I have some mixed feelings! On one hand, I absolutely love how they're bringing back that classic banter and humor that Spidey is known for. You can really see Kelly's respect for the legacy, especially in the way he captures Peter's voice. But on the other hand, I can't shake the feeling that some of the storylines are a bit… predictable?

For example, the recent arc with the return of a classic villain felt like it was checking all the nostalgia boxes without adding much new to the table. Remember the days of JMS and how he reinvented characters while keeping the essence intact? That's what I'm craving!

And can we talk about the art? It's got a great vibe, but sometimes it feels like the detail doesn't quite match the intensity of the dialogue. I miss when every panel was just bursting with action and emotion like in the classic Romita Jr. days!

I totally get what you're saying about the mix of nostalgia and predictability. It's such a balancing act, right? Joe Kelly definitely nails that classic Spidey wit, which is refreshing to see, but I agree that sometimes it can feel like they're leaning too heavily on past storylines. JMS really set the bar high with his character reinventions, and I often find myself wishing for that same level of innovation.
