X-Men 2028: Meet Marvel’s New Cast and What We Want From the Movie

Adam Driver as Mister Sinister caught my attention immediately. I was expecting another Magneto rumor, so seeing him officially connected to Sinister is much more interesting. The character has a very specific obsession with genetics, bloodlines, and mutant evolution, so putting him against a young group of X-Men could give the movie a different kind of villain. I also like that the story seems focused on Jean instead of trying to introduce ten characters equally. That usually makes these ensemble movies easier to follow. The part I am unsure about is how much the movie will connect to the MCU. I want the mutants to feel like they belong in this universe, but I do not need constant references to Avengers characters. Let the X-Men have their own problems first. If Marvel gets the characters right, they have enough material for several movies without depending on crossover events.

I am probably the least excited about the release date because May 2028 feels extremely far away. Still, I would rather wait for a good X-Men movie than get one quickly just because Marvel wants another release on the calendar. The cast is already giving me some hope. Sadie Sink as Jean makes sense after her earlier appearance, and I am curious about Maya Boyd as Storm because that role could become very important over time. I also want to see what they do with Rogue. She can be funny, emotional, powerful, and dangerous depending on how the story uses her. That gives the writers a lot to work with. Mister Sinister also feels like a better choice than immediately bringing in Magneto. It lets the movie establish the X-Men without repeating the same conflict from the old movies. I just hope the villain does not become another CGI-heavy character with a generic plan to destroy everything.

I like that Jean is the main character for this version. It makes sense because she can be the person discovering Xavier's school and the other mutants at the same time. I also like that they are not rushing Wolverine into the first movie. We have seen so much Wolverine already that giving Cyclops, Storm, Rogue, and Jean more room feels better to me. Adam Driver as Mister Sinister is probably the casting choice I am most curious about. He can play strange and serious characters without making them feel too cartoonish. I also wonder how much Emma Frost will actually be involved because Samara Weaving could do a lot with that role. The 2028 date feels far away, but at least Marvel seems to have a clear plan now. I am mainly hoping they let the X-Men story stand on its own instead of making every scene about the Avengers. When it finally arrives, I’ll probably end up rewatching plenty of the earlier X-Men films as well. That kind of movie marathon is one reason a Universal TV Remote Control can be pretty convenient when switching between different devices and streaming setups.

I’m with you on keeping Wolverine out of the first movie. At this point he has been the center of so many X-Men adaptations that making Jean the audience’s entry point would give the new team a chance to establish its own identity.


Jean discovering Xavier’s school and gradually meeting the other mutants is also a much cleaner way to introduce the world than trying to explain the entire X-Men history immediately. Cyclops and Storm especially deserve room to become characters rather than just supporting players.


Driver as Sinister is the one I’m most interested in too. Sinister works best when he’s unsettling and calculating rather than simply another loud supervillain. And if Emma Frost is involved, I hope they give her enough material to actually matter to the story.


The biggest thing for me is exactly what you mentioned: let the X-Men be the X-Men. They don't need an Avengers cameo every ten minutes to make the movie feel important.
