I totally get what you mean about The Odyssey. It's one of those classic tales that really captivates you once you get into it. I'm curious to see how Nolan approaches the source material. I was already planning to watch this, but now I am even more interested. I like that Nolan kept most of the original story instead of trying to reinvent everything. The way you described the family side makes it sound like the emotional parts are just as important as the action. Three hours is still a lot for me though. I usually start checking the time once a movie gets close to that length. If the ending really delivers, I can probably accept it. I also like that practical effects were used for the Cyclops. That makes me more excited than hearing about another CGI monster. I just hope the pacing stays strong because long movies can lose me if too many scenes feel slow.

I was worried this would be another movie where the visuals are amazing but the characters feel distant. I have never read The Odyssey, so I was wondering if someone like me could still enjoy the movie. I think this might actually be a good introduction for people who missed it in school.
