Rediscovering the Heart of Super Sentai: What Makes Your Favorite Season Shine?

With so many seasons of Super Sentai over the years, each brings its own unique flair to the table, character dynamics, themes, and, of course, those iconic transformations. For me, it's got to be the emotional depth and camaraderie of "Gokaiger." The way they honored past Sentai while crafting their own narrative just hit all the right notes, especially that moment when they first summon the powers of past teams.

Which season holds a special place in your heart, and why?

Dairanger is hands down my favorite Sentai series and may be my favorite TOku show (though, I have been going back and forth if I like Sharivan more). Everything about that series is just perfect except for the camerawork. Like, the camerawork for what it is is amazing, but I wish it had those motion shots like Dynaman-Flashman had. The mechs are my favorite. I love how all but 5-6 episode are plot based. Sugimura was a genius in letting a single writer focus on each subplot like having Inoue do the Ryo/Jin episodes (which feature some of the best fights in the entire series) while Kunio Fuji handled all of the Daigo/Kujaku/Gara ones. Every character had development. The villains were badass and I loved how they were run like an actual empire. And then there was the music and monster designs. All in all, it had a couple of flaws, but no Sentai series ever topped it for me.

Kyuranger is the pinnacle of tokusatsu, it is not any one thing it does the best, but the sum of its collective that transcends its lack of any category being first place. It was also a divine gift from the great beyond to combat the harrowing evil that was Kamen Rider Build, the worst tokusatsu ever made. Anything less than perfection would not have held off the tide of that synthetic devil that forever tainted the genre. Until the day mankind discovers something like the balefire from Wheel of Time and smites Build into oblivion, successfully damning it from memory, we will need this pillar as an everlasting testament to cosmic imagination. Talk about lucky.
