I've still got my old Blu-rays, so I don't think I need to buy this. At the same time, I like that they're keeping The Original Series available instead of letting it disappear. A lot of newer fans started with Strange New Worlds or Discovery, and this gives them an easy way to see where everything began. The Amazon version is nice, but I don't think the vinyl and lobby cards are enough for me to spend the extra money.

The Blu-ray being only a few dollars more than the DVD makes the choice really easy. I don't see why anyone would buy the DVD unless they don't have a Blu-ray player. The picture quality alone makes the Blu-ray a much better value.

I grew up watching reruns of The Original Series, so seeing it reach 60 years is pretty amazing. The effects obviously look old today, but I still think the characters and stories hold up. That's the reason people keep coming back to it. It isn't just because it's the first Star Trek. Many episodes are still entertaining after all these decades, and that says a lot about how well the show was made.

The Original Series deserves a good anniversary set because it still matters a lot in TV history. On the other hand, the packaging sounds more collector-focused than fan-friendly. That is not always a bad thing, but it does mean the price climbs fast. I also notice that this set is more modest than the 50th anniversary edition. That makes sense, but it also removes some of the value for people who wanted a bigger archive-style release. I would probably only buy this if the restoration and disc presentation are excellent. If the transfer looks great and the extras are thoughtful, then it has a real purpose. If not, it is just a pricey repackage.

I respect the move to keep the release focused on the original show. Sometimes box sets try to do too much and end up feeling messy. This one sounds more direct: three seasons, 79 episodes, and a strong set of extras. That is a good structure. The problem is that the standard editions are still expensive enough that casual buyers may just skip it. I also think the Amazon exclusive is clever, but a little too obvious as a collector trap. The vinyl and lobby cards are nice, but they are not essential. I would rather see a lower base price and let the deluxe edition sit higher for people who want the extras. That would feel more balanced to me.
