Attend Crime 101 On Blu-Ray And DVD June 30

I’m really looking forward to the release of Crime 101! Chris Hemsworth has been killing it lately, and I love seeing him in different roles outside of the superhero realm. I’m curious about the fight choreography in this one, how does it compare to his work in Extraction? That movie had some intense action sequences, especially that stairwell fight! I hope they bring in some creative stunts and practical effects here as well. Are you planning to pick up a physical copy, or will you stream it?

I was already interested when I saw Chris Hemsworth doing a crime movie instead of another action hero role. The setup sounds more serious and grounded compared to the usual fast action films. I also like that Halle Berry is not just playing a side character. The insurance broker angle makes the story feel different because most heist movies only focus on the thieves and cops. Mark Ruffalo as the detective is also good casting because he usually plays characters that feel realistic and tired in a believable way.

What makes me curious is the director. I watched American Animals before and it did not feel like a normal Hollywood crime movie. It had tension without trying too hard. If Crime 101 keeps that same style, I think it could end up being one of the better crime dramas this year. I’m probably getting the Blu-ray because movies like this usually look better at home without streaming compression ruining the dark scenes.

Really hoping this movie focuses more on characters than action scenes. The setup already sounds strong enough without constant explosions. Bart Layton directing gives me some confidence because American Animals felt grounded and uncomfortable in a realistic way. Also expecting Barry Keoghan to act suspicious even if he only has five minutes of screen time.

The insurance broker angle is what caught my attention. Most heist movies only care about the thief and detective, so adding someone stuck in the middle makes the story feel more human. Halle Berry could end up being the best part honestly. Hopefully they give her enough material to work with.

Mark Ruffalo playing detectives just makes sense to me. He naturally gives off stressed and frustrated energy without overacting. Chris Hemsworth as a jewel thief is also a nice change because people forget he can do more than loud action movies. This could end up surprisingly good if the writing holds up.

I like that they are giving this movie a physical release so fast. A lot of crime movies disappear after streaming now, so I still buy Blu-Ray when I really enjoy a cast like this. Chris Hemsworth doing a serious crime role sounds more interesting to me than another action hero role where he just punches people for two hours. I also think Halle Berry as an insurance broker with personal problems could make the story more grounded. Mark Ruffalo usually plays stressed detectives very well, so I can already picture him being tired and obsessed during the investigation. The setup sounds simple but solid. I honestly care more about the tension between the three main characters than the actual jewel robbery. Also, Bart Layton directing this makes me curious because American Animals felt realistic in a very uncomfortable way. I hope this movie keeps that same energy instead of becoming too flashy and polished.

Barry Keoghan being listed as “who knows” is funny because he always plays strange people anyway. I can already imagine him causing problems for everyone in the movie. I also think the Los Angeles setting works well for this type of story because modern crime movies always look better when the city feels hot, dirty, and stressful instead of clean and expensive. I mostly want to know if Chris Hemsworth can really pull off being a smart criminal mastermind for an entire movie. Sometimes he still feels too much like Thor no matter what role he does. But if the writing is strong enough, maybe this will end up being one of his better performances. I might wait for reviews first before buying the Blu-Ray though.

I still collect DVDs because internet speeds in my area are terrible sometimes, so I am glad studios still remember physical media exists. This movie sounds like something I would watch late at night when I want a serious thriller without superheroes or fantasy stuff. Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry together is an unexpected combination, but I think it could work because they both have very different screen presence. I also like that the story sounds smaller and more personal instead of trying to save the world. The detective angle makes it more interesting too because I enjoy cat-and-mouse crime stories. I just hope the movie does not become predictable halfway through. Usually these kinds of movies start strong and then reveal too much too early. If the ending stays tense, I could see this becoming one of those crime movies people talk about for years.

I already know some people are going to compare this to Heat even if the movie ends up completely different. Any crime film with a thief and detective automatically gets compared to classics now. Personally, I just want something entertaining with strong acting. Chris Hemsworth choosing a role like this is interesting because it is less safe than another big action franchise. I think he works better when he plays confident characters with hidden problems underneath. The insurance broker part also makes the story feel less predictable because she sounds like the emotional center of the movie. Barry Keoghan being involved means there is probably going to be at least one very uncomfortable scene where he acts strange. That man has built a whole career out of making people nervous. I am honestly more excited for this than most recent action movies.
