A few anime series come to mind that really shine in English dub compared to their original sub, thanks to outstanding voice acting and direction.
First off, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is a standout. The English dub features a stellar cast, with Vic Mignogna as Edward Elric delivering a performance that perfectly captures the character's determination and emotional depth. The English adaptation also gets the humor and dramatic moments just right, making it an enjoyable experience from start to finish.
Another series worth mentioning is My Hero Academia. The English voice cast, particularly Chris Sabat as All Might and Justin Briner as Deku, really brings the characters to life with dynamic performances that enhance the action and emotional stakes of the show. Funimation’s localization efforts also do a great job of retaining the spirit of the original material while making it accessible for English-speaking audiences.
Then there's Attack on Titan. The English dub has been praised for its intense and compelling performances. With voice actors like Bryce Papenbrook as Eren, the character's emotional turmoil and determination come across powerfully. The dub manages to maintain the series' dark and intense atmosphere, which is no small feat.
Lastly, if you're into slice-of-life comedies, check out Nichijou. The mix of quirky humor and absurdity translates really well into English. The dub is actually quite a treat because the delivery enhances the comedic timing, making some moments even more hilariously absurd than in the sub.
While the sub versions of these shows are fantastic, the English dubs really elevate the experience for me personally. It ultimately comes down to preference, but these dubs do a great job of capturing the essence of the characters and the story!
