We spent a few hours with Rushing Beat X: Return of Brawl Brothers on Nintendo Switch 2. We came away charmed, a little frustrated, and curious about what comes in

Rushing Beat X sounds like it has that nostalgic charm we love from classic beat-em-ups! I totally get the mixed feelings—those games often balance between fun and frustration, especially if the controls aren’t as tight as we’d like. I loved the original Brawl Brothers; it had such a unique style for its time.

I’m curious about how the gameplay mechanics stack up against modern titles. Are there any new features that make it stand out, or does it stick closely to the formula? Also, how's the co-op mode? Some games in this genre really shine when you can team up with friends.

Man this game actually feels like a real sequel to those old SNES beat em ups I played as a kid. The way they mixed the Japanese stories together makes everything click better now. Combat is mostly smooth and the new characters have cool differences. Yeah the jumping attacks miss sometimes and the heavy weapons feel sloppy but I still had fun smashing zombies and frogs. Soundtrack is nice too. Definitely picking this up on Switch 2.

I went in blind and honestly the first hour confused me a bit with the story but once the fighting started it clicked. Rick Norton feels solid as always. The kitchen cooking part is a fun little break between stages. Enemy variety is way better than I expected with all those weird creatures. Some positioning issues pop up but nothing that ruined the experience. Good comeback for the series.

Not gonna lie the positioning problems and missed jumps sound annoying but the rest of the game makes up for it. Story connecting the old games is smart. Douglas as the heavy hitter and Kahlua as the fast one give good variety. The cars you can knock enemies into is a cool touch. Might grab it on PC to see for myself.
