Disgaea Mayhem: The Long-Running Series Goes Musou, Dood

Disappointed. Been waiting for Disgaea 8 news and they drop this instead. Action RPG spinoff feels like they’re trying to chase trends instead of sticking to what works. Musou games get boring fast unless the combat is perfect, and I doubt one mercenary can carry that. The humor is there but gameplay switch is too big for me. I’ll wait for the real sequel.

As someone who only plays Disgaea for the absurd power fantasy and breaking the game, this might be even better. No waiting for turns, just pure chaos and huge damage numbers. Magichange into weapons is a nice touch. If they let you combo into specials like in the old games I’m sold. Summer release is perfect timing too

I mostly play Disgaea for the systems. I spend more time in Item World than in the main story. So when I saw that Item World and Dark Assembly are still included, I felt relieved. That means the developers understand what fans care about. The story about a princess and her missing dessert is simple, but that is fine. Disgaea stories are usually light and funny at first anyway. What matters to me is how deep the character progression goes. If I can break the game with high stats like before, I will be satisfied.

Lol they really went “what if we made Disgaea but you’re the only one fighting and it’s Musou style”. The dessert theft plot is so dumb I love it already. Item World and Dark Assembly still being there is smart, keeps the core loop intact. If the action feels good I might actually prefer this over waiting 50 turns per map in the regular ones.

This actually sounds pretty fun. I’m not super into the main games because the battles take forever, but beating up big groups in real time while still grinding like crazy? Sign me up. Princess Tichelle and her flan obsession is peak Disgaea humor. N.A. as the mercenary sounds cool too. Hope they keep the over-the-top numbers and broken combos. Buying day one on PS5.

Finally something new for Disgaea fans who are tired of the same grid battles every time. I like the idea of running around smashing hundreds of enemies while still keeping the Item World and reincarnation stuff. The flan story sounds stupid in the best way possible. NIS always does weird plots, so I’m in. Hope the combat feels smooth on Switch though, because handheld Musou games can get messy. Summer can’t come soon enough.

I feel mixed. On one hand, I like action games and fighting many enemies can be satisfying. On the other hand, Disgaea is my comfort strategy series. I enjoy taking my time and thinking. I worry that real-time combat might be stressful instead of relaxing. I hope there are difficulty options so both casual and hardcore players can enjoy it. I will probably try the Switch version because I like portable grinding. If it keeps the humor and crazy scaling, I think it can still work.

I think this could be fun, but I’m approaching it cautiously. I love Disgaea for the absurd level caps and turn-based strategy, so this is a big departure. At the same time, the grinding, Item World, and bills in the Dark Chocolate Assembly make it feel like the series hasn’t completely changed. I like that the story doesn’t take itself too seriously either. Chasing a flan sounds ridiculous but it’s the kind of humor that makes me enjoy the world. I’m hoping the combat is engaging enough to keep me playing, otherwise the grinding could feel boring without strategy planning. I’ll probably wait for gameplay reviews before I decide to buy.
