Crunchyroll Costs More To Crunch On

Nah, I’m out. Been loyal since the Funimation days, but this is too much. App is still laggy on Android, search function sucks, and now $13.99 for Mega? I’ll go back to 9anime or whatever free site still works. Crunchyroll got too comfortable. Sorry, but my wallet says no thanks.

Jesus , another price hike? I’ve been on Mega Fan for years because I watch anime every single day after work. $13.99 isn’t the end of the world, but it stings when they add features that should’ve been there from the start. Skipping intros is nice, sure, but I could do without teen profiles—I’m 32 and live alone. I’ll probably stick around because the library is still the best, but I’m not happy about paying extra for stuff other services already have.

This is the third hike since the merger, right? First it was the ad tier nonsense, now this. I switched to HIDIVE for most stuff and only keep Crunchyroll for exclusives. $17.99 for Ultimate is getting close to two separate services. If the quality upgrades are real I might stay, but right now I’m leaning toward canceling after my current cycle.

I’m actually relieved it’s only $2. Back in 2023 prices were jumping $3–4 everywhere and we all survived. Crunchyroll still has the best simulcast speed and the biggest new season lineup. I’m on Ultimate Fan so $17.99 feels normal now. If they fix the queue bugs and add offline downloads for mobile like they hinted, I won’t complain at all. Been paying since the Funimation days—loyalty pays off sometimes.

Nah this is greedy. They got 17 million people already paying and still want more cash while the search function stays trash and half the older shows have no English dub. I canceled two days ago. $9.99 for Fan tier? Pass. I’ll just rotate between HIDIVE, Netflix anime section, and YouTube rips until something better shows up. Companies only learn when subs drop.

People crying over $2 need to chill. Everything costs more now—ramen, electricity, bus fare. Crunchyroll gives me 1,200+ shows, day-one subs, and no regional blocks for most stuff. $13.99 for Mega Fan is still cheaper than one movie ticket. I’ll keep paying. The intro skip alone saves me 3 minutes per episode × 12 episodes a week. Math checks out.

Laughable. “Quality of service upgrades” my foot. They’ve been promising better offline mode and faster loading since 2022. Now they slap $2 on top and expect applause? I’m on the free tier with ads anyway so this doesn’t hit me yet, but when I do subscribe again it’ll be for one month only to binge whatever’s hot then dip.
