They warned you they were going to do it, and they’ve done it. The Crunchyroll service now costs $2 more, though when that increase happens for you depends on what kind of customer you are.
If you have an ongoing existing active subscription, the $2 increase will not start appearing in your billing cycle until after March 4. But if you’re currently unsuscribed, turning it back on will cost a couple more Washingtons. Here’s the breakdown:
- Fan Tier will increase from $7.99/month to $9.99/month.
- Mega Fan Tier will increase from $11.99/month to $13.99/month.
- Ultimate Fan Tier will increase from $15.99/month to $17.99/month.
Crunchyroll tries to put a positive spin on it through the announcement on its website, pointing out they plan several quality of service upgrades in the near future, including multiple orfiles, teen profiles and PIN protection, expanded device compatibility and…weird that it took so long for this last one…the ability to skip the intro and credits of a show.
Crunchyroll has reported having 17 million paying subscribers, though that announcement was a year ago. It remains to be seen if the price bump will cause that number to go up or down.
