The current season of the Tomb Raider cartoon on Netflix is its last, but Lara Croft’s small screen career hasn’t ended yet. She’ll be leaping to live-action next with a series on Amazon Prime, set to begin shooting soon. As of today, we know who’s playing who. It was revealed months ago Sophie Turner is Lara (a choice that still remains controversial). But here’s some news that’s more welcome: Sigourney Weaver is in the show. I think, like most decent people, that Sigourney Weaver should be in as many movies and shows as possible while we can still have her in them. I almost don’t care who she’s playing as long as it’s someone (and it’s not a teenage blue alien, is it?) but here’s her character: Evelyn Wallis, “a mysterious, high-flying woman who is keen to exploit Lara’s talents.” Bill Paterson plays Winston, Lara’s butler (uh-oh, I anticipate a date with the inside of a fridge for that guy). Martin Bobb-Semple is Zip, tech wizard and Lara’s Chloe O’Brian (he also appeared in Netflix’s TR cartoon). Jason Isaacs is Lara’s uncle Atlas DeMornay, who had a somewhat antagonistic role in the game Rise of the Tomb Raider as the […]

Seeing Sigourney Weaver attached to this show makes me a lot more excited than I expected. I don’t care if Sophie Turner isn’t everyone’s first choice for Lara; Weaver alone is enough to get me to tune in. I’m curious to see how her character Evelyn Wallis will fit into Lara’s story because the description makes her sound like she could be either a major help or a massive problem. I’m also intrigued by the inclusion of Jason Isaacs as Atlas DeMornay. In the games, he was a complicated figure, so I wonder if they’ll keep that nuance or make him outright villainous. Overall, it looks like they’re balancing the old fan favorites with new characters, which could work well if handled right. I just hope the series keeps the adventurous spirit without feeling too heavy or overstuffed with characters.

Honestly, I can’t recall any of these characters from the games I played. Lara’s universe always had a few recurring faces, like Roth or Sam, but names like Evelyn Wallis, Gerry, or even Sasha don’t ring any bells from any of the Tomb Raider titles I remember. Atlas DeMornay feels like they might have borrowed a little inspiration from past villains, but even then, he’s not a name I recognize from the main games. It’s interesting that they’re creating mostly new characters for this live-action adaptation. On one hand, it gives the writers more freedom to tell new stories without being tied down by game canon, but on the other, it might make the series feel disconnected from what longtime fans know and love. I guess we’ll have to see if these fresh characters can still capture the same adventurous and daring vibe that the original Tomb Raider world had

I have a feeling the dynamic between Lara and Atlas DeMornay could be one of the most interesting parts of the show. In the game, he was complicated, not outright evil, and that kind of relationship can make the storytelling more compelling. I’m also curious about how the tech side with Zip will play out. I like when Lara has support but still remains independent. Evelyn Wallis adds another layer of intrigue, and with multiple government officials involved, the story could have some layers of strategy or politics. I hope they don’t overcomplicate it. It needs to stay clear enough to follow while giving enough depth to make it engaging.

I am really curious how Sophie Turner will handle Lara Croft. She did great in Game of Thrones, but this is a very different type of action role. The fact that Phoebe Waller-Bridge is involved makes me think it might have smart dialogue and some humor mixed in with the adventure. I like that they are adding new characters like Sasha and Georgia because it could make the story feel fresh instead of just rehashing old game plots. Jason Isaacs as Lara’s uncle sounds interesting too; I wonder if they will explore her family history more deeply. I hope the show focuses on clever puzzles and tomb exploration rather than just fight scenes. The mix of familiar faces and new rascals could either work really well or feel crowded. I guess we will have to wait and see, but it feels promising for fans of the games and casual viewers alike.

Waller-Bridge as creator makes me hopeful for strong female leads. Sophie Turner is solid, and the mix of old and new characters might actually work if balanced well.

Seeing the new Tomb Raider games alongside this show is cool. I hope they at least nod to the game storylines. Could be fun for fans without being confusing for new viewer

I am not sure if the show will appeal to hardcore Tomb Raider fans because of the new characters, but I like that they are trying something different. Sasha and Georgia could make the story more complex in a good way. I also appreciate that Waller-Bridge is leading the project because she often writes strong women without making them seem perfect. Sophie Turner is an interesting choice, and I hope the action scenes look realistic and not overdone. I also hope the series keeps the tomb raiding exciting and smart, rather than just showing explosions and fights. The filming starting this month makes me curious about how soon we will see the show.

I am worried there might be too many characters. Some could get lost in the mix. But Sigourney Weaver as a mysterious figure sounds promising. Could be a strong antagonist.

Yeah I am a little worried about too many characters crowding the story, but the cast is strong, and some new faces like Sasha could add fresh conflict. I hope Lara remains the focus.
