Yes, Disney reviving another old show in their lineup for cheap attention is pretty shameless. Yes, they could be spending their money on something original. I don’t care. I missed these characters and I want this Malcolm in the Middle revival mini. Give it to me! The first-ever trailer for Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair was released today, and a release date along with it. The teaser is short but covers all the bases, promising a full four episodes of pranks, pratfalls, and embarrassment for all involved. While I’m let down to learn Malcolm never wound up with Cynthia, I’m pleased to see oldest brother Francis is still with Piama. Frankie Muniz of course returns as Malcolm. Jane Kaczmarek (Lois) looks good rocking that long white hair. Bryan Cranston is back as Hal, no longer the role that defined his career (and I’m sure he’s happy about that). Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield reprise Francis and Reese. Did we leave anyone out? Oh…right. I can’t believe all of them are adults now. It feels so strange seeing Malcolm, Reese, and even Francis grown up. Heck, even baby Jamie is now an adult! Watching the trailer made me feel old because I remember watching Malcolm in the Middle as a kid, and now everyone’s living their own adult lives. It’s kind of surreal to see these characters I grew up with facing grown-up problems, having families, and dealing with real-world stuff. I’m excited to see them again, but I can’t shake the feeling of time passing way too fast.

Malcolm in the Middle and honestly never thought I’d see it come back. Seeing Frankie Muniz return as Malcolm feels like a blast from the past, even if he’s older now. I’m curious about the new family setup because the trailer was confusing about who’s related to whom. I hope the humor is still the same, because the original’s charm was in the awkward situations and Malcolm trying to navigate a crazy family. Recasting Dewey worries me a bit since Erik Per Sullivan was iconic, but if Caleb Ellsworth-Clark can capture that awkward, clever vibe, I’m willing to give it a shot. Four episodes feel short, but maybe that’s enough to enjoy a few laughs without dragging it out.

The original show was clever and chaotic, and seeing the cast back, especially Lois with her long white hair, is strange but kind of funny. I’m mostly interested in Hal because Bryan Cranston has done so much since the original show, but he still looks like the goofy dad I remember. The new characters seem a bit confusing with all the family connections, but I’m okay with a little mystery. I hope the jokes and awkward moments don’t feel forced and that they still capture the family’s insanity. Four episodes are better than nothing, and I think a short miniseries is easier to watch in one sitting anyway.

Watching this show makes me really thankful that I have sisters instead of brothers. Seeing all the chaos, pranks, and constant fighting between Malcolm, Reese, and Francis reminds me how stressful it must be growing up with brothers. I love the humor and all the crazy moments, but I don’t think I could handle that level of trouble every day. Sisters can be annoying too, but it’s usually in a different, less chaotic way. I feel lucky because I get to enjoy the fun parts of the show without experiencing the nonstop sibling battles myself. It really makes me appreciate my family setup.

I was surprised when I saw Malcolm’s kids in the trailer because I didn’t expect him to have a family yet. It’s exciting to see the characters again, even if it’s only for a few episodes. Seeing Hal and Lois older makes them feel real, and Francis and Piama still together is great. I am a little nervous about the new actor for Dewey, but I can adjust if the writing is good. The show always had a mix of smart humor and chaos, and I hope that continues. Four episodes seem like a perfect short revival. I will definitely watch it as soon as it drops on Hulu and Disney+.
