Jaws has just had its 50th anniversary, and with it comes multiple ways to celebrate its history! For example, a re-release of the original NES game coming to both Nintendo Switch and Playstation! The legacy that the original Jaws has left on the world cannot be understated. It shook up the world in 1975 with its tense atmosphere and unique brand of horror that remains effective even now. The visual of a Shark coming up from the depths to devour a swimmer is forever associated with movie, and remains a major part of cinematic history. With the movie now reaching 50 years of age, there has been a push to celebrate the movie’s anniversary through a variety of different ways. Part of this celebration would come in the form of a Jaws game, but not a new one. Rather, this game would be the NES classic from the 80s, re-released and bundled with extra goodies. A RETRO ROMP WITH THE GREAT WHITE The original NES game of Jaws is an action game with arcade-like gameplay. I love small independent projects like this, and it feels nice to see Jaws celebrated with care. The NES game is not flashy, but it has charm and nostalgia built into it. The Bigger Boat Edition looks amazing for collectors, and even the booklet seems worth having. I like that the game is accessible on Switch and PS5 because it brings an old classic to modern players. Preorders ending in January gives people enough time to decide, which is fair. I like that the article mentions the history and legacy—it makes me appreciate the game more. I might stick to the Retro Edition, but the Bigger Boat items are tempting. It feels like Limited Run respects the fans, the movie, and the game equally, which is rare.

I’m curious how the original NES Jaws feels on modern consoles. The gameplay sounds straightforward, but I like that it keeps the retro action alive. I think it’s smart that there’s a choice between Retro and Bigger Boat Editions because some people just want to play, while others want collectibles. The items in the Bigger Boat package seem fun, especially the pin and pixel lamp. I like that it’s available for PS5 and Switch, so no one misses out. Preorders make sense for something limited, and I like that they’re giving fans a chance to own a physical copy. I’m a little hesitant because I’m picky about physical editions, but this one looks genuine and thoughtful. Overall, it seems like a good mix of nostalgia and gameplay.

Nobody asked for this. Is there even a market for this artifact? I mean, who really wants a pixelated shark lamp and a CD with 8-bit tunes in 2025? It feels like they’re selling nostalgia to people who probably don’t need it, and I can’t help but wonder if anyone outside a tiny collector bubble actually cares. The NES game itself is decades old, and while retro stuff has its fans, this feels more like a gimmick than something people would genuinely play or enjoy. I get celebrating a 50-year anniversary, but sometimes it seems like companies just throw every little collectible together hoping someone will pay extra for it. I’m all for preserving gaming history, but this feels like an overcomplicated way to resell an old cartridge. I’m curious if it even sells out or if it ends up gathering dust on shelves.

I’m mostly here for nostalgia. I played the original NES Jaws when I was younger, and even though it was simple, it really stuck with me. Seeing it come back with a retro edition feels like a little time machine. The Bigger Boat edition is tempting with the keychain and lamp, but I don’t need all of that. I just want to see if it still gives me that feeling of danger while swimming through the ocean and tracking down the shark. I love how simple but tense the gameplay was, and I’m hoping that hasn’t changed. Being able to revisit it on a modern console feels surprisingly exciting, even if it’s just the same old pixels.
