Once upon a time in the late 2000s, James Cameron was at his table staring at two potential projects. One was an adaption of the manga Battle Angel Alita, and the other was kinda like the 1990 Kevin Costner movie Dances With Wolves only it was in outer space. Cameron ended up picking the latter project, and gave the former to his director friend Robert Rodriguez. Avatar made a billion dollars, while Alita: Battle Angel didn’t make quite that many. Thing is, though, I don’t feel like I’ve ever run into a truly rabid fan of Avatar, while vocal stans for Alita: Battle Angel are still everywhere. It seems like every now and then we hear about a potential second Alita film, but never anything concrete. What we’re about to share isn’t concrete either, but it’s solid enough to drive on. The magazine Empire asked Cameron about the status of this long-rumored sequel.
